This book was interesting. I found it kept my attention most of the time. I thought it was very good in building the world more, and the character development was very nice. I feel like the whole story has been told and flushed out. However, I would have liked more resolution. There was so much rebuilding to do, I would have liked to have heard their plan at the very least. I suppose that might have been viewed as boring, so maybe that's why it wasn't included. All in all, it wasn't a bad book, and the series as a whole is better than I originally thought it would be.
I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!! I meet Mrs Haddix at a book signing yesterday for this book, got home to start reading, and didn't put it down until I had finished the book! I was very surprised by the end, but loved it! A must-read!

I enjoyed reading of this trilogy. I liked that in the first book we got to see what really happened with Ella and that it really was no fairy tale. In the second book, the story takes on a whole new cast of characters and we get to see how their story plays out. In this final novel, Princess Desmia is our main character and we see the aftermath of both Ella and the Thirteen Princesses' stories. Desmia isn't the most likable character at first, but she does get better as the story goes on. I wasn't really sure what to expect from this book, but I liked seeing how everything came together and the epilogue was very sweet. Not a new favorite for me, but an enjoyable read nonetheless.
Happy Reading my Friends.

This is the last book in The Palace Chronicles and it was so good! It again switches perspectives from the first two books, but this perspective connects the two original story lines. I loved this book and felt like it was very good conclusion to the series. I also loved seeing a protagonist grow and struggle so much simultaneously. I can't express how much I highly recommend and love this whole series. The love stories are also cliche, but never the less I fell in love with each couple.
A number of years ago I did a year of Cinderella stories with my 4/5 grade class; one of the books we read was Just Ella and the class was divided about it (they liked Ella's resourcefulness, but the method of escaping the palace grossed them out). Where was I when the sequel came out? Who knows. Now I have to track that down. This book, the third in the series, is good both as a stand-alone and as a continuation. We're in a different kingdom, with different problems and different characters, but Ella and Jed make an appearance.
As far as the plot goes, it hits all the right notes: daring escapes, wicked plotters, possibly mistaken identity. There were a few moments when I hoped for something different, but that's because I've been reading these types of books for so long. The target reading group? They'll love this.

This is actually the first time I've read a book from this series and I thought Haddix did a fantastic job filling in the backstory just enough that new readers could follow along without having to read the other books first. (But also creating enough interest that you would want to read them to complete the picture.)
for some reason this book felt super familiar to me, so I might've read it already and completely forgot about it.
either way, this was pretty good at tying up the series. palace of mirrors is one of my favorite books and this doesn't really hold a candle to it. the romance felt rushed and out of the blue, and the rest of the plot was just ok. a bit predictable honestly. either way, it was fun to see things from Desmia's pov.

This third book in the Palace Chronicles series picks up where Palace of Mirrors left off. Desmia and her twelve sister-princesses are having their official coronation and learning to work together. They have finished negotiating a peace treaty with Fredisia through Ella & Jed, bringing to an end the long war. Just when it seems they will all have a happily ever after, disaster strikes. Now it is up to Desmia to open up and trust people, or lose her kingdom and her new found "sisters" in the process. An excellent conclusion of the trilogy. It is important to read them in order. Recommended for grades 4-7.
