The miscommunication was terrible at some points of the story but it also made me want to continue reading to see how it is resolved. I look forward to read the last installment to see how Tyen and Rielle solve the possible problems of the worlds

Themes, characters and journeys develop and evolve in this third volume of the series. The pace, tone and storyline’s are as engaging as the previous 2 books...one more to go!

Successor’s Promise is the very good third book in the Millennium’s Rule series but I felt it was not as engaging as the first two novels. However, it was amazingly written with brilliant world building. It had action, political intrigue, romance and magic. On the other hand, I felt like that the structure of the first two books didn’t work this well in this one as Rielle and Tyen interacted more and their stories were so interlaced that I just wanted to know what the other person was doing or thinking.

I understand the conflict Tyen felt in this book but I did wish he would either pick a side or talk about his problems with someone rather than constantly beat himself up. Rielle has grown so much more in confidence in this book but this means she has become less trusting and more protective. Qall was not my favourite character as for the first half of the book he stubbornly did not seem to understand how seriousness of the situation he was in, but he was also a bit mysterious as he was the only character that we could not see his thoughts or feelings.

While this book was not my favourite in the Millennium’s Rule series I did enjoy it, and am looking forward to reading the final book, Maker’s Curse. I would recommend Successor’s Promise to fans of the first two books in this series or other works by Trudi Canavan.

Undoubtedly an improvement over the first two in the series, this book is still ultimately a guilty pleasure read. It's got a whole bunch of fantasy tropes smashed together, and not really a whole lot new to say, but it is overall just a bit of fun. Despite the lack of character definition and the weird stumbling writing that continues to repeat itself (not as egregious as previous novels again, but still there).
It does have a few small comments about the dangers of industrialisation, and about being in control of your own life and actions, but the messages are heavy-handed and mostly uninspiring.
Read if you just want a bit of good old-fashioned fantasy fun.

Books by Trudi Canavan automatically land on my 'favourites shelf'. Even saying that, this book and series has really become my favourite of all her books. The universe is so interesting and well built, the characters are great and very aware of their own person. I love Tyen and Rielle! I love the lore. Everything!

And maybe the best thing about the book was that on the last page it said there that would be one more book!

Basically this review is just exclamation points with a few words here and there. And maybe som hearts <3<3<3<3<3<3. That is my opinion of this book. <3

Quite bored actually. I’m 100 pages in and whilst I want to find out what happens to Vella I just don’t feel invested enough. It’s slow moving politics and I don’t feel enthused enough to continue reading.
