Off to book 2 now !

I struggled with West at the start of this book. You can tell that this is otherwise, a very nice, upstanding, great guy, so I did not get why he was so VERY judgy about Nico when he first saw him. He judged him on his looks, but also on the fact that Nico "abandoned his family", when he ran awa at 15. He never seemed to want to question what would make a kid that age think he had to run away, and that irritated me.

And then, he seemed to have changed his mind about Nico, but I'm not sure we're ever told why. We're told he stopped by to "check on" Nico and the baby daily, but we're not really shown much of those interaction, to see why West started to thaw, making it seem like it was really only that he wanted to get into his pants.

But once he DID get over his attitude, I really enjoyed this book! I loved Nico and the baby, and the Wilde clan was great, and I even grew to really like West, but this only served to make his earlier behavior even more strange- it just doesn't fit the guy that we got to know.

But all in all, I liked it a lot, beginnings aside. I'd say 3.5, so I'm giving it the bump.

ETA: I just remembered a nitpick I had while reading this: Nico, his sister, and their mother lived in a doublewide trailer, and this is where the sister still lived, after Nico ran off and their mother remarried. It's said that it was damaged by flooding after a storm, and that she used the insurance money to build her cabin. Honey, people who live in trailers and live week to week can't generally afford that kind of insurance, not to mention, most insurance doesn't even cover flooding, you have to have special insurance for that. I highly doubt Adrianna would have had flood insurance on an old, run down trailer. That, and Nico having leather pants to wear, when he was only in town to take care of his sister's affairs after she died, were just a bit hard to take.

What I like about Lennox and in extension, narrator Michael Pauley, is their ability to bring the fun and funny interspersed with over the top lust and horniness but then really grounding it in some angsty feels and always with some great familial love and dynamics. I had thoroughly enjoyed myself with [b:Borrowing Blue|33119757|Borrowing Blue (Made Marian, #1)|Lucy Lennox|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1479993955s/33119757.jpg|53786604] and [b:Taming Teddy|33332775|Taming Teddy (Made Marian, #2)|Lucy Lennox|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1481517930s/33332775.jpg|53875448] from the Made Marian series but for me it had gradually veered from its expected formula which I’ve said is not necessarily a bad thing…. however, I felt this spinoff brought back the components that I enjoyed originally.

Nico (Griffin’s bff) must return home to settle the affairs of his deceased sister, mainly a baby niece that he’s almost pretty sure he sorta doesn’t want. Nonetheless, Nico’s closed off heart slowly opens as he gets to know the sweet Pippa and the other man in her life, surrogate dad/uncle Weston Wilde. These two clash immediately due to preconceived notions and assumptions, but what they can’t deny of course, is their insanely combustible attraction that they don't resist for very long at all. Ha! Can they get over themselves to make a new family with each other? Well, duh.

This was chock full of claiming growling sexy shenanigans that wasn’t lacking in the drama and a new family that can’t mind their own beeswax. I know better than to take this book too seriously, and I definitely know where to look next if I need a big dose of Lennox/Pauley/“Wilde” romance. I hope that this series keeps on delivering!

2nd time reading and attempting to start this series again. This time listening to the audiobook. I like Nico. But not in this story. I like the character every time I’ve seen him in other books. I can’t quite put my finger on it. There’s something off in their connection. I do like West, but not a lot. I want to know more about the other characters so I will keep up with the series. Am also bumping up the rating from 1 star to 3 stars.

On paper this should’ve been great. But I had so much trouble caring and connecting. Barely finished it, definitely skimmed, and when I had 6 chapters left, I jumped to the epilogue. Which I also skimmed!

It's done. DONE!!!!! I am finally done with this godforsaken book!!! I swear, when I reached that final page, I could have wept tears of pure joy. Truly, how I hated this book, it's unbelievable.

The worst part about it is that I fully expected to like this book. I recently read two other books by this author, namely [b:Say You’ll Be Nine|53466714|Say You’ll Be Nine (Say You'll Be Nine, #1)|Lucy Lennox|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1590248007l/53466714._SY75_.jpg|83492206] and [b:Hostile Takeover|58229111|Hostile Takeover (Hostile Takeover #1)|Lucy Lennox|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1622514197l/58229111._SX50_.jpg|91267665], which I both loved, so I saw no reason as to why I would dislike this particular book. After all, the premise sounded perfectly fine.

But ohhh... How I was tricked! Because damn, this book was horrific. It was excruciatingly boring and I hated both of the main characters. They were so incredibly annoying, and so incredibly miss-matched. Why did they even like each other?? Who the hell knows, honestly! I think all they did was be angry at each other and have a whole bunch of sex. Literally, that's about it.
But yea, sure, that's definitely true love. Makes sense. NOT!
And aside from both of them having absolutely zero chemistry or emotional bond with each other, they are also just horrible characters on their own. I repeatedly wanted to punch both of them. They have no depth or personality other than being incredibly difficult, judgemental, over-the-top, moody, angsty, galling and stupid for no reason whatsoever.

And then those sex scenes... Jesus Christ, the sex scenes... I could honest to God hardly keep my eyes from falling closed every single time they started humping each other. It was so bland and so repetitive, and it was also ALL. THE. DAMN. TIME. They didn't do anything besides have sex. Literally nothing. Their relationship straight up made me uncomfortable. It was so toxic, and if anyone were to try to convince me that these two would actually function as a real-life couple, I would laugh in their face. Just no.

While reading this book, I could almost immediately tell I wasn't going to like it. The story-telling was off and monotonous, the pacing was awkward, the characters were underdeveloped while still managing to be unbelievably infuriating, and I know this is going to sound weird, but that damn baby honestly bothered me as well for some reason. Like, who the hell names their child Pippa anyway? Why would you do that???? And the baby just didn't do anything. I mean, she was there, but she literally wasn't really there?? I don't even know anymore, but I do know that a book has truly hit rock bottom when a freaking baby gets me mad for no reason other than existing.

I don't understand where West gets off judging Nico for leaving a town that hated him.

Why does he hold Nico responsible for Adriana's happiness (especially when he was younger and needed to fend for himself)

As if a 15 year old boy could do anything to help his sister who actively pushed him away back then.

I just don't get it.

Also West being immediately attracted to Nico is fine. Him acting on it to the point where he just wants to have sex despite his supposed conviction to figure out what happened in the past is just dumb and characterizes him to be just a shallow guy who wants to sex up people he finds attractive.

Ummmmm ok so I’m obsessed. Literally obsessed.

I thought I was just being *hormonal* when I started bawling my eyes out listening to this on my way to work. But then I cried some more. While eating close to an entire cheesecake. Then I cried some more.

YOU GUYS THERE IS A BABY.

WITHOUT HER MAMA.

AND THEN THERE IS NICO AND OMG NICO 😩😩🤧🤧🤧

Honestly I appreciate West for the cowboy he is but I was team Nico the entire time. The moments with Nico and Pippa 🤧 I hope the rest of the series is this good because again… I am OBSESSED.

Another beautiful story

After inhaling the Made Marian series in all of its yummy man glory, I knew I wanted to dive into this offshoot series that starts off with Griff's friend, Nico. After reading only a few pages, I knew I had made a good decision. These man that Lucy creates are flawed, human, beautiful, broken and completely and totally loveable. There isn't one that I haven't fallen for. Add in a baby in need of a family, a crochety pair of grandparent gay husbands and add in heartbreak, redemption and self-love, and this is a complete success. I can't wait to dive into the next book about the Wilde boys!
