I read this in chapter style via kindle and amazon. It was a great way to read and I enjoyed it al lot.
Decided to quit Scalzi. I love his politics and his twitter personality but the modestly entertaining snark in his books is just not enough to justify how boring and pedestrian they are. This book feels even more phoned in than previous iterations of this series. Just cleared all the Scalzi out of my wish-lists. Too bad, I really like the guy.
Could have been four stars but I read it in novel form rather than a chapter at a time as per the electronic release, and the episodic style felt a little disjointed and just didn’t work that well for me.
As always I really liked the characters and the action but this time the plot seemed to flounder a little.
Let’s just hope the final instalment in this excellent series leads to a nice fat satisfying conclusion.

John Scalzi is yet to disappoint me. I absolutely love this series.
An intriguing way to structure a book! The "episode" idea worked for me; it felt like a season of a TV series rather than a novel, but that wasn't a bad thing. Like some TV series, the season's themes and overall plot only gradually became clear, and were more pronounced in some episodes than others. I ended up enjoying all the episodes. Scalzi is a good short-story writer.
Abumwe and Coloma are fantastic, and I am choosing to ignore a certain plot development and pretend they have a long and interesting life together. Similarly, Wilson and Schmidt need to start dating already. ;)
The book ends with lots of threads left unresolved - it felt very much like a season-ending cliffhanger to bring viewers back for Season 2. I look forward to reading the next book.

This is a collection of stand-alone but interlinked short stories and novellas that cover the conflict between Earth and the Colonial Union and a mysterious enemy that threatens them both. The stories are funny and sharp and you gradually find the connections between them as the book progresses. A great next instalment in this universe.
