Another great from Lauren Dane

I haven’t found a book I don’t like from Lauren Dane, and this was no exception. I gotta say though that Wren is probably in my top ten most AWESOME heroines of all time! That girl has sass for dayyyyys and gets what she wants once she’s set her mind to it! And the sarcasm ... me likey!!! Don’t get me started on the yumminess named Gregori either!! Yummmmayyyy!! Tattoos, check. Accent, check. Talent, check. And this list just keeps going!
I’m excited that there’s a sequel for these two bc I gotta KNOW!! What happens next?!?!

It was well written and developed, especially for a novella, but even though it had all the right components it lacked some chemistry.

Wren Davis is an art student as well as a bike delivery messenger who has befriended notorious artist, Gregori Ivanov. Gregori has a reputation of being a hardened lover as well as temperamental, but Wren sees a whole different side to him. When she shows up, they talk and have tea and cookies or sometimes cake, which has Wren supporting a huge crush on the artist.

Gregori doesn't know how to classify his relationship with Wren, on one hand he tries to put her in the employee compartment, but she is not. Unlike those who surround him, Wren doesn't want anything in return, in fact he has to pry information out of her.

When Gregori makes a mistake by kissing her, everything changes. Wren wants what she knows Gregori can give, the problem is Gregori believes he is not good enough for Wren.

I am one of those people who totally worshipped at the house of Cosmo and would read those magazines religiously. As I don’t have the time to read magazines any more, I totally miss out on those awesome short stories they usually publish in Cosmo. UNTIL NOW. You guys, the other day I was browsing Netgalley and besides the cornicopia of Christmas romance, a bunch of sexy looking novellas got uploaded. These novellas were part of a new imprint at Harlequin called Red Hot Reads. So, of course I requested a few and devoured the first one, Cake by Lauren Dane in one sitting. If novellas like Cake are what I can expect from this imprint color me PUMPED.

Finally finished the book. This is supposed to be a 3-4hours read but due to work, I haven't been able to finish it. Well, anyway... We already know thag Real Life sucks big time. LOL.

Hmmm. This book is like the books I have read in the past. Back when I was still reading Filipino novels... Some of the storyline is similar. Not that the man in every book is an artist. Mainly, rich guys.

In any case, I like it. It was good. Although I do not like how it was written. I just meant that I wish the author could separate the two POVs. Like make it every Chapter, POV changes. I always say that I love delving into the mind of BOTH main characters and I totally support 2 POVs. But of course, one might be confused when reading Cake because this paragraph was the girl's POV but the next it suddenly changes to the guy. Please stick to one POV to make it easier for the readers.

Or you could make it like this paragraph is the girl's POV and make 2-3 space lines before starting the guy's POV. I've seen that kind and it is understandable. You just have to think of a way of incorporating two POVs without making the readers confused.

That said, yeah , me likes it. The main problem is with the man being scared. Of what? I leave that up to you. The problem can be actually resolve quickly as seen towards the end. It just took a long because the author makes them develop the feelings first which is quite right and good. Although you cannot be mistaken that there is an attraction between the two of them in the beginning..

Oh yeah, I was waiting for sex scene. And it's a bit in the middle of the book before it happened and after that, it happened more. lol. I mean, I'm all for the love scene but I don't like it too often. But here, I guess it is just right for the target readers.

My Review:

This is a selection from the Cosmo's Red Hot Reads and boy does this book scream RED HOT!! This is my first Lauren Dane book and it will not be my last. This was a treasure and my first novella that wasn't tied to another series. I enjoyed this steamy read. This novella captured a lot of emotion in a short book and also a lot of steamy sex.

I love strong female characters and Wren is exactly that. She knows what she wants and goes for it no questions asked. She's strong confident and freaking sexy. Gregori just screams bad boy from his red streaked mohawk, Russian accent, tortured artists appeal, and his party boy life style. Gregori is everything we were warned about but are so inclined to want to put our mouth on his yummy parts.

This story was written exceptionally well and I found it extremely enjoyable from start to finish. Every scene in this book left me wanting more and more. The sex was so great and it didn't seem forced or overdone even though this is clearly erotica. I did miss that relationship building that comes with a longer book and that's why it didn't get a perfect score. Hear my plea Ms. Lauren Dane please give us more Wren and Gregori.

This book was provided to me by Harlequin through NetGalley in exchange for an hones review.

Wren is a bicycle delivery person in Seattle. One of her favorite customers is the hip artist Gregori Ivanov who is well known for his bad boy ways. But she thinks that taking a shot at a relationship with this man is well worth the risk.
I read this novella after the second one in the series. It would have really helped to read this one first as we get to see more of why Wren and Gregori are together.
