This is a sweet story with a "grass is always greener" theme. Spoon bemoans his lack of versatility. He can only scoop up things, not slice and spread, like his friend Knife; or twirl and spear, like fork. But while he's longing to be like them, we hear THEM wishing to be more like him! Adorable full page cartoon illustrations add tenderness to the story.
I normally don't review children's picture books because they are so short that anyone can pick them up and read them in 10 minutes. But I felt the need to rate this one because I LOVED it and have been thinking about it a lot lately.
The story consists about a spoon who looks at knife, fork, and chopsticks and thinks about how great they are because of the things they can do that spoon can't. What he doesn't realize are all the amazing things that spoon can do that the other utensils look at him in amazement with (like diving head first into a bowl of ice cream).
I have found myself like spoon a lot lately - looking at others and wishing I was like them. I think this book resonated with me so much because it's a reminder of my own gifts and blessings and to be grateful for what I have.

Spoon has always been happy, but lately he's feeling like his friends have it so much better than he does. Knife gets to cut things, Fork gets to swirl spaghetti, and Chopsticks are exotic. It is only after Spoon's mother reminds him that he gets to dive into ice cream, click against a cereal bowl, and swim in a hot cup of tea.
Such a cute book to remind children that we should celebrate what makes each of us special.

our branch copy finally came in and it was just as adorable as everyone's said. amy krouse is my new favorite go-to for story time, thanks to little hoot and little pig.
This is a great book that I feel can help children express feelings of envy and also teaches appreciating your own strengths and privileges. It can also be used to teach personification. It could be a good way to teach children about positive thinking as well.
It was a cute picture book with a measage of “the grass isn’t greener on the other side, it’s greener where you water it.”
Spoon is jealous of all the things his friends fork, knife, and chopsticks can do, but it is later revealed that there are things about spoon they are jealous of too. Everybody has their own purpose, and that’s what makes them unique!

For: spoon fans; readers looking for a book with puns that emphasizes that everyone is important.
Possible red flags: feeling left out/not special.

A great little story about what makes us each different. As kids learn that certain utensils are better for certain tasks so too they can see that they may be better suited for various jobs based on their own unique skills.
