Good? Bad? Meh? This was a little hard to finish mainly because it's so damn huge. Also, let's make it clear. This is getting 4 stars so it's no way meh. Coming back from book 5 where we had mainly 2 sets of people, the Edur and the Letherii throughout the book, this book felt like being back to a maze of everyone thrown in and with some new characters as well.

As far as action and suspense go, this one has almost everything. The Bonehunters are forged in this war, another name that will grow into a legend, just like the Bridgeburners or the Coltaine's chain of dogs. Aye there are betrayals aplenty and heartbreaks thrown in here and there just to mess with you. But then again, you get to meet old characters and some new ones you come to love for a while. Some betrayals you expected, some deaths you didn't see coming and some revelations you wish you could unread.

The pieces are almost in place, the soldiers slowly being forged, the gods are in place.

The face off against the Crippled God is getting scarier by the book.

“And so we weep for the fallen. We weep for those yet to fall, and in war the screams are loud and harsh and in peace the wail is so drawn-out we tell ourselves we hear nothing."

It was truly brilliant. Finally, we have the convergence of all plotlines and characters from previous five books into one. The bigger picture arose. In this installment, a direct war between the gods was started, which will lead to unimaginable impact in the lifes of mortal, immortal and the world itself. "Whether we worship or not, it is mortal blood that will soak the earth."
The theme discussed a lot in this book was the relationship between worshippers and their respective gods. "Show me a god that does not demand mortal suffering. Show me a god that celebrates diversity, a celebration that embraces even non-believers and is not threatened by them. Show me a god who understands the meaning of peace. In life, not in death."
The pace was almost perfect, though it sometimes dragging. We got lots of splendid scenes. Not to mention, for me, anything with Ganoes Paran, Karsa Olong or Cotillion in it was awesome. Throw in Greyfrog, and it just made my day. Special thanks to the never ending amusement from the soldiers in the Fourteenth Army. I will have to say, the unexpected betrayal in the end almost ruin it for me, but then the resolution was great, so what a huge relief. On to the next!

“The most deadly seducers are the ones encouraging conformity. If you can only feel safe when everybody else feels, thinks and looks the same as you, then you're a damned coward...not to mention a vicious tyrant in the making.”

Another fantastic entry in this great series.
Most of the previous story arcs and plot lines that have been trailing along (and there are a lot of them!) end up converging in this volume, and they manage to converge very smoothly. Some of my favorite characters make their appearances, some characters I really like meet horrible ends, and some of the characters I despise gain even more power, thus making me hope they get their dues and therefore will keep reading lol.
A particular scene really stands out and has stuck with me. It involves an ambush on horseback, and its basically a slaughter. The description of the scene as it occurs flowed extremely well to me, and is a really great example of Erikson's awesome writing.
Well on my way to completing this saga! Recommended!

What a book, positively the best of the series so far. It ties so many threads together, contains cataclysmic events (we finally see Icarium in action) and its last quarter is a page turner extravaganza. Amazing.

So far the hardest book in the series to read when reading in chronological order. The character depth is immense and difficult to follow through the middle section. Toward the end of the book there is a lot more cross referencing of characters from across the series. This makes the end section thrilling and leaves you wanting for more. Can't wait to start the next book. I had to take a break during the reading of this book to give my brain a rest.
