What an utter waste of time. This is without competition the worse book in the series.

One of the best books I've ever read. Once again Ms Kenyon takes us on a journey, and shows us that what we see isn't all that's their. She takes a much hated character and reveals his hidden traumatic past. And his struggle to overcome it and make amends for past wrongs. I will read this book over and over again.

I was a little hesitant going into this book as in the last 7-8 books, Julian has been one of the bad guys. However by the time the first chapter was done I was totally down for his story. This and Born of Defiance are definitely my top two books in this series.

So far, this was my favorite of the League books. I may have said that before, but this a character I hated, that is now one of my favorites. I loved this story and I really hope that Julian and Nik can have some sort of a relationship later, especially their children. Their both so alike, and don't even know it.

I cried all the time I read this because the emotions that were emitted in this book were supernova! The dialogues, the pasts and the rollercoaster ride of emotions were too much. It just made me want to rethink about my life and what will i do to make sure that it is the best outcome for everyone but also for myself. Jullien has my heart and soul

Ms. Kenyon has done it again. She has taken a long-standing villain, turning him into a hero, and made us fall in love with him all the while breaking our hearts over the life he has led. If you are a fan of her Dark-Hunter series this is very similar to what she did with Acheron and Styxx. Thank you, Ms. Kenyon, thank you for encouraging us to think about the people that we think of as evil or the enemy and realize that it is always a matter of perspective. That they are often victims too.

This is a long book that covers a pretty long time frame, five years I believe, it also covers much of the same time period and events that have been focused on in previous books. I know some might find this annoying, they want a fresh plot, I get that, but personally I enjoyed the rehashing. Not only to it refresh my memory it also gives us that different perspective and lets us fully grasp what happen. It gives us a bigger picture of the action that took place. I appreciate that as a reader it truly lets me crawl inside this universe and experience it fully.

I loved this book, probably because I come from my own dysfunctional family I could easily identify with Dagger’s feeling of abandonment and isolation and resentment. His anger and need for vengeance too. It also made my heart soar to see him find a family that loved and appreciated him. For me, it had been long enough from the earlier books that I didn’t remember all the crap Dagger did to his brothers so I found myself not feeling any resentment toward the character like I did with Styxx. It was easy for me to warm up to him. I loved Ushara and Val too. I couldn’t imagine a better family for Dagger to end up with.

The next book is Bastien’s and from the reviews, I see there are quite a few disappointed readers on Goodreads. I’m thinking the fault they are finding might not be such a big deal for me but it still gives me pause. I am going to put a book or two between this and the next one. Give myself a bit of time to forget the plot in this one so I don’t get annoyed by recovering so much of the same plot in that one. This one however, was a great read and if you have ever felt like an outcast in your own family then you will appreciate Dagger’s story.

If you haven’t read the Dark hunter series and are planning to... congrats you just basically read one of the books.
Styxx’s book to be precise.
It’s obviously not identical but they are so similar in the way that it’s really easy to make that connection between the two books, even more so when it’s the same author that’s written.

The only differences that I could tell are that instead of being identical they’re fraternal twins but Nykyrian has “deformed” human eyes (hmmmm I wonder who else has defo—Acheron. It’s Ash if you’ve read any of the D-h series you’ll know this) which are still beautiful btw an have more heightened senses (hearing, eyes, smell etc.), it’s set in a future-esque sci-fi environment. Instead of Gods and Nymphs we got Aliens with God-like powers.
And that’s it for differences.
Now for the similarities:
- Tall, skin color and Handsome? Check
- is banned from society/tortured within an inch of their lives for being different or not meeting expectations? Check
- is depicted as a bad guy because of the actual bad guys? Check
- have to save their SO at some point one way or another? Check
- end up stinking rich by the end of the book and have a lot of kids? I rest my case. I mean I could go on but I won’t.
While yes, I did feel bad for him here and there by what his bitch grandmother did I can’t say I had the strong emotions that I might’ve had, had I not read Styxx’s book first. I did like the book mind you and I would mind re-reading it and you can still read it and enjoy it well enough by it’s own, just know that this book has a twin in an alternative Universe ;)

4.5 starts - mostly because Sherrilyn Kenyon is amazing are continuity. Dagger's takes place throughout five of the books that came before it (Can be read as a stand alone, but I STRONGLY recommend against that!), and I knew exactly what was happening on both sides of the timeline because of how memorable all of the books are.

Jullien a.k.a. Dagger's book is just heartbreaking and knowing what you know about him from previous books it just makes you love him and want him to find peace even more. I would love to re-read the previous books to get a different perspective now that I have Jullien's POV of the events. All in all I binge read this book. It had me hooked and from the moment I re-meet Jullien it was so hard to hate him as I kinda wanted to. He's sarcastic and just so....huggable. He's had a rough rough life and it actually made me doubt my love for other characters that have come before him. Which just makes Kenyon that much more of a fantastic writer!

There were a couple of things that irks and kept popping up in my head as I read.

1. There was a lot of repeating of phrases "contentious asshole" was one of them that as much as I loved the phrase to describe Jullien, because it's true and became almost an endearment, it got almost to overused for my liking. Minor, but my irk. lol

*BIT OF A SPOILER COMING*

2. As a fan of the Dark Hunter Series, there were a lot of parallels for me between Acheron/Nyk and Styxx/Jules. More then just the twins being at odds, but the same events and both having the horrible childhood.
- One having a good relationship with a blood maternal figure while the other builds that family. (Ash/Nyk with his real mother - Styxx/Jules with his Tavali family)
- One trying to help the other brother but making things worse in the eyes of the other. (Styxx trying to help Ash when they were young/Jules' version of helping Nyk while in school)
-The 'favoring' of one and 'disfavoring' of the other when really both are disfavored.

While Styxx and Ash have their own story and plot wise totally different then that of Nyk and Jules...the parallels were to close for me.

But again, all in all, I LOVED Jullien's book and can't wait to get my hands on the next one!
