4.5 stars ~ Audiobook
Lucy Score flaunts her dirty birdy side in By a Thread, a grumpy/sunshine, enemies-to-lovers office rom com. It’s warm, funny, hotter than Hades, and I was glued to every entertaining moment.
Shout out to my girl Ally. She is fiercely Independent (yes, the capital “I” is necessary). Even in the face of financial desperation and a family crisis, she manages to remain optimistic and resourceful. I loved her spunk. She gives as good as she gets with Dominic, whereas everyone else is intimidated by the handsome, taciturn, powerful alphahole.
There’s something satisfying about a strong man being brought to his knees by a woman. Dominic’s slowly unraveling cool demeanor is a joy to behold. He quickly becomes obsessed with Ally without her even trying. If anything, she delights in riling him up. Their love/hate relationship is hilarious and magnetic. Break your fans out because when they finally get it together, they burn the house down with their chemistry and Dominic’s fluent dirty talk. Not too shabby for two characters in their 40s!
Abby’s relationship with her aging, ailing father is touching. I loved Abby’s best friend who happens to own a strip club. I think Faith could have a fun story of her own to tell.
The By a Thread audiobook is narrated by Erin Mallon, who never disappoints. I was surprised by how much humor Sebastian York effectively conveys as Dominic.

I will admit that I got a few giggles out of this book. I did feel formAlly having to deal with her father's decline into dementia. Other than that, I don't have many other good points to offer. I forced myself to finish this book. I don't have many DNF's, and I was unwilling to add this one to the list, although I came close 3 or 4 times.
The banter between Dominic and Ally started out ok. It provides the occasional snort. Their ridiculousness proceeded to go on entirely to long. Then I discovered Dominic and Ally's ages, 44 and 39 respectively.
These were not mid to late 20yo's, or even early 30's. These were grown flippin' adults. They were behaving like college students, and I might be generous in making them seem that old. I was tired of Ally's pride and her reluctance to ask for or accept help. The whole situation with working at Faith's was dumb, especially when Ally had other options. I was tired of Dominic's daddy issues. I was tired of the whole damn book.
If I haven't mentioned it before, the book was way too long. I thought it was never going to end. I wanted to give up @29%, 36%, 48%. When I realized I wasn't at 50%, I wanted to throw my Kindle. When I realized I was in chapter 63 and there were still TEN more to go, I was devasted. But, I pushed on until the bitter end.

So good!!! Couldn’t put this book down. Adding Lucy Score to my auto buy authors list
All of these characters are well fleshed out, Dominic and Ally’s witty banter made me literally LOL many times. While the book was 500+ pages long, I left at the end feeling satisfied in their love story… especially seeing their life 10 years later in the extended epilogue. OH AND THE SPICCEEEE!
