4.5 out of 5 ⭐ Ohmygosh if you enjoy dark academy gothic romance you'll enjoy this book! Read the TWs, but it wasn't as "dark" dark as I initially thought. I absolutely devoured it and am so glad I had The Cursed so I could start it immediately. That cliffhanger was...whew!
I did feel as if some plot lines weren't fleshed out or just left forgotten, but I'm hopeful the second book will dive into some of that.
Note on the Actual Villain TW: yeah, like the biggest lol and might not be a good choice for a devout Christian reader.

I originally picked this book up because of the gorgeous sprayed edges and then realized after reading the blurb inside that I would probably blaze through it. Witches ✅ I’m pretty sure the vessels could be considered vampires so also ✅ I enjoyed pretty much every aspect of this book and was pleasantly surprised that the spice did not overpower the plot . Will be picking up the second tonight even though it’s late and I should probably just go to bed. 😏

Was this a good book? No. Was it well written? No. Did it make any sense what so ever? Not really. Did I have a fun time and wanna see where this book goes? 1000%. This book was awful and I enjoyed it for that. This book had some great ideas and would have been better with a few more rounds of editing.
Spoilers ahead
She goes from being this bad ass witch who has two different kinds of magic to just a horny teenager (and I mean before he compelled her to be that way). She is frantic about her brother for all of like two chapters and than forgets he exists until he is a plot device again. There insta love and horniness doesn't make a whole lot of sense either. Also don't even get me STARTED on the giant age gap this is 16 year old girl to a billion year old demon! Over all it had some great ideas and did not execute them well. That being said as stated I will be reading the next book to see where it goes.

This novel was required reading for our little homegrown book club “Totally Booked”. I did get caught up in the story. Willow is a descendant of witches from her mother’s side AND father’s side. Her mother managed to fake her own death and “hide” Willow and her brother, Ash, from the Covenant. The problem being that as soon as her mother dies, Willow is revealed to the Coven and must be brought to Hollow’s Grove University where the 12 chosen becomes 13. There’s very little about what any of the “students” are learning at HGU, but more about the sexual tension between Willow and her nemesis, Alaric Thorne, who could be her death or her salvation. A Vessel and a Gray? That confused me …. In any case, I read the whole book. It kept me interested. I like the delicious smut as much as the next woman, but the religious undertones and Heaven vs. Hell, Lucifer vs. Christ (or The Covenant) was more than I cared to read into it. Let it be what it is, good versus evil, falling in love, giving up the best of you and your past for your soul mate, your other half. And good sex in the midst of life / world / death altering consequences. I liked it!!! 😁
Holy cow!!!! That ending made me so stoked for the next one!!! First green flag for this book is that it’s a romance between a with and a demon and he calls her “Witchling.” I’m a Dorian girly so I was ALL over that. Honestly, it got a 4 star rating but had 5 star potential. I just needed more- more character development, more world building, more academia details, just more. I kinda struggled with picturing the school and I’m still a bit confused on the size of the student population. She could have added another hundred pages to this and I would have ate it up. I’m still a bit confused and think there were a few plot holes, and despite that it’s still at least a 4 star book and the premise for book 2 is going to be my jam and I am pumped! I love a good spicy, spooky, witchy dark romance. Book 2 is going to be a fantastic fall read after it comes out in August. Eek!!!
