"Children Make Terrible Pets" tells the story of Lucy, a spirited bear, and her new pet, Squeaker; who just so happens to be a little boy. Lucy finds Squeaker in the woods one day and quickly decides to claim him as her own, despite her mother's wise warnings that "Children Make Terrible Pets." Lucy and Squeaker become fast friends, finding fun everywhere they go. Soon, however, Squeaker goes missing and Lucy starts to realize just how much work a pet can be! With bright and descriptive illustrations accompanied by a cute storyline, this book is bound to become a favorite of kids ages 3-8. Younger children will love the vivid pictures and adorable "squeaks" heard throughout the story. While older kids will enjoy reading the dialogue and speech bubbles to themselves. Warning: this book is bound to elicit loud squeaking noises from your children!

This book is funny and strange. I really enjoyed seeing this from the bear's perspective and watching her try to make the child more pet-like. However, this book raised too many questions for me that I'm sure I'm not meant to think about since it's a children's book.

For: bear and pet fans; reader wanting a book about finding the perfect pet.

Possible red flags: tantrums and kidnapping.

Such a fun read. My favorite part: "You were right, Mom. Children DO make terrible pets." Then mom says: "They really are the worst." 😂😂😂

My kids love this book. The illustrations are expressive and the story is a fun one for kids: exploring how a bear (named Lucy) would react to having a little boy for a pet.

A very silly story about a bear that finds a little boy as a pet, and boy what a naughty pet he is! Elementary aged kids will laugh and find the humor in this story!

This book was about a bear that wanted to keep a child as a pet and the mother bear allowed but her mother said it would be her responsibility.

Cute idea. Pretty good writing, but not especially good art. Annoying font. Kind of fun to see the pet idea turned on it's head. But I wanted more. 3.5 of 5.

Vaguely creepy to me for reasons I cannot full articulate. Beautiful artwork though.
