A very fine collection of short stories: it is varied so it is difficult to say what was best, in the end. There is magic and mayhem, there is love and death, there are ancient myths and modern forces. It is well balanced, even if the stories may seem all together by mere accident. That accident is called Neil Gaiman, and he doesn't bring pain and loss, only light and creativity.

p.s. it didn't really took me a whole year to read this, my problem with short stories is they finish soon and you don't get the right suspense and anticipation to get quickly through it. I read possibly 75% of the stories in the last few weeks.

Well, this ended up the same as the other short story anthologies I've read. Some I liked, and some I didn't. Anthologies are always a crapshoot, and they're always harder than a novel. I gotta get used to another universe and writing style every 5,000 words. I gotta figure out the new protagonist and plot goals over and over again. It's a no-win situation. If you don't like the story, it's a slog. If you do like the story, it's over too quickly.

The only reason I read this was because Neil Gaiman's name was attached to it AND I found it easily at the library. Failing those events, I wouldn't have picked this up.

Read the last short story, come lady death. It was alright. More disappointed that there wasn’t more to it.

I put this book down not long after I started reading, and only picked it up again nearly 2 years later in order to complete my BOTNS bingo card. No story was memorable, and some were a slog to get through. Only a couple did I like, but I can't even remember which ones off the top of my head.

It’s weird, I felt that every one of these stories was a bit soulless, like the characters were (almost) all unrelatable and sad and annoyed, but at the same time the stories were all different and full of imagination and I enjoyed it so much.

THIS is what I want a collection of short stories to be. Neil Gaiman's taste is impeccable. Every single story was wonderful from beginning to end. It's the sort of book you'll want on your shelf forever so that whenever you want something wonderful to read for 20-30 minutes you can pick it up and flip to any story in the book.

My favorites were a story with a title that looks like a long inkblot, by Gahan Wilson, The Cartographer Wasps and the Anarchist Bees, by E. Lily Yu, Sunbird, by Neil Gaiman, and The Smile on the Face, by Nalo Hopkinson. The others didn't lodge in my brain as deeply, but they were all delightful.

I'm glad these were short stories, because it only took up a short amount of my time to suffer through them.

What a combination! Some are classics which can pass off us modern. Really like this. Recommend this to kids who love to read about monsters and ghouls.

Es difícil puntuar un libro de relatos, unos son siempre mejores que otros, pero, en líneas generales, me han gustado mucho todos.
