Not a review, just some impressions. The book is not bad, the characters are interesting. However, there is something which gets heavenly foreshadowed, so you just know it is going to happen at some point and so I basically waited for it to happen ... and then lost interest because the story dragged on and on.

Quite an exciting read from the get-go. The plot was believable and I found myself immersed in the book. A thrilling, suspenseful story with two fairly damaged characters making each other whole.

I wasn't very taken with Nick and Andrew though. While they are a good match, I wasn't drawn into their romance. The suspense was more interesting than their relationship.

This book touches on racism and the effect it has on people whose lives are irretrievably affected by the ratings-hungry media spotlight. I like that it's not all sunshine and roses. There's no definite resolution to this issue and I appreciate that the author didn't try to sugarcoat it by having the problem go away so easily at the end of the book.

A good read overall.

This did not quite work for me. [a:L.A. Witt|3185029|L.A. Witt|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1386112911p2/3185029.jpg] is a bit of a hit and miss author for me. I did finish this one but I found that I skimmed a lot towards the end. The chemistry was lukewarm and lacklustre. It was a pretty predictable and at times unpleasantly preachy. Definitely low angst but it also lacked substance. I'm not a fan of tortured, paranoid MCs ... heavy tormented by self-doubt and fragile. MCs lacked the complexity and depth needed to really carry the story or make the connection sing. A bit of a miss for me unfortunately. On the surface, this book had all the elements that I usually really enjoy ... except it really didn't come together as well as I hoped.

I struggled a little bit with this story until I realized my own preconceptions were messing with my enjoyment of the book. Nick and Andrew's relationship is hot! The plot is good, although it was way too easy to figure out the whodunit. My problem became that I got really frustrated with two MC's who refuse to deal with any issues and hope they can screw them away, literally. I had to step outside of my head and remember that everyone deals with things differently. Over all, a really good story!

These three books all include M/M romances, but are pretty good action / thrillers as well. I'd like to see more of these books from L.A. Witt, an author whose books I've recently been devouring. She writes strong characters who still grapple with their various insecurities and vulnerabilities. I recommend these three to read if you're looking for some good thrillers coupled with a good romance.

I enjoyed this book. I think what I most enjoyed besides the great banter between the two main characters was the plot. I would say I have read a lot of LBGT books in the last year or so and sometimes they can seem to only fall into two categories, pure smut (nothing wrong with that) or a coming out/acceptance story (again nothing wrong with that)so it is really refreshing when the plot has absolutely noting to do with the characters sexual orientation. Don't get me wrong there is still a fair amount of smut in this but its still a good book with a good plot about how there are two sides to every story and how the media can twist things around and influence people because of it.

While I enjoyed this story, I thought that Andrew fed Nick too much paranoia. Nick was borderline neurotic at times with his paranoia. It was crazy and very dramatic. Wouldn't have been if something would have happened sooner...

So Nick responds to a call in Masontown, which is a seedy neighborhood. Things go down and he has to triage the 4 victims on the ground. He "tags" them and of course, the only black person on the ground, gets "black-tagged". Two were "green-tagged" and one was "red-tagged". of course, someone jumped to the conclusion that black tagged meant he was a racist and wouldn't help the patient. Which is not the case...

Things escalate from there and death threats are made. But, nothing happens beyond that for a good long while except Nick becoming crazy.

I did like the action though when it came, just wished there was more of it in the beginning.

Overall, good story, just wanted more action and less paranoia.

Not rating, because for the most part I was enjoying the writing and characters, but I just felt really uncomfortable with the plot and some of the racial stereotypes and implied politics subtly being messaged. I just don't feel like a white woman was the best person to have been writing this, and I can definitely tell it was written 13 years ago in a way that I had a very hard time getting past and that made it impossible for me to really enjoy the other aspects.
