Enigma is a story steeped in sea mist and secrets, where the walls of an old academy whisper of forgotten sins and every brushstroke reveals something unspoken. The murder mystery, while not wholly surprising, serves as a moody backdrop for what truly shines: the romance.
There’s something spellbinding about an artist MMC—especially one who sees the FMC in hues no one else notices. Their connection unfolds like art: slowly, intimately, layer by layer. Although there’s only one scene where he paints her, it’s a scene charged with intimacy and meaning—one that lingers long after the page turns.
What added even more richness to the reading experience were the chapter quotes and the photography threaded throughout. They weren’t just aesthetic choices—they amplified the story’s atmosphere, grounding the narrative in melancholy and beauty.
RuNyx writes with the kind of restraint that makes every glance, every word, feel loaded. If you crave romance wrapped in atmosphere, with just enough danger to keep your pulse racing, this one’s worth diving into.

This was honestly a great read... and my first RuNyx book..
SALEM SALAZAR is a hurricane in a perfectly pressed blazer. Controlled. Calculated. Quietly burning. She doesn’t believe in happy endings—she believes in answers. Her older sister disappeared at Mortimer University, and now Salem is here on a mission: figure out what the hell happened and who’s responsible. Her legacy status gets her through the door, but it’s the weight of her grief and rage that drives every move.
She came to uncover secrets.
She wasn’t supposed to find him.
CAZIMIR VAN DER WAAL is the problem you don’t see coming until your world’s already in flames. He’s chaos in human form—an artist, a TA, a walking warning label. Mysterious. Beautiful. Soaked in secrets and darkness. And from the moment he lays eyes on Salem, he’s hooked. There’s something about her—those gold eyes, that sharp mind, the way she walks into a room like she’s already won. He hates it. He craves it.
She wants to dig up the past.
He’s the one who buried it.
Their connection? It’s not sweet. It’s a slow descent into madness. He stalks her like a predator. She plays his games like she’s been planning this all along. It’s cat and mouse—but neither one is sure who’s actually holding the knife.
Everything about them is forbidden. Toxic. Addictive. But they can’t stop. Salem keeps poking into Mortimer’s secrets—disappearances, deaths, societies that whisper in shadows—and Caz? He’s drowning in his own lies, terrified that she’ll see the real him underneath the obsession and the art.
And still… they fall.
It’s brutal. It’s violent. It’s terrifying.
And somehow—it’s love.
By the end, they're not the same. She isn't just the girl looking for her sister anymore. And he isn't just the broken artist hiding behind a brush and a smirk. They're something darker. Something dangerous. Something bound.
Everything's changed but at the same time, nothing has. They're in love and together... through it all.
Would I read this again? Sure, why not?
Would I recommend?? Yes!!!

This was my first time experiencing RuNyx’s storytelling.
The plot was intricately layered, occasionally dipping into overly detailed passages, which might be expected given the length of the book. Still, it never felt slow or disjointed. In fact, the story flowed remarkably well and kept me engaged from start to finish.

What stood out to me most was the dynamic blend of mystery, romance, spice, and just the right pinch of humor. It ticked several boxes without feeling like it was trying too hard. Even though this is the only book my library currently carries from RuNyx, I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for more of her work.
As for the narration, Jaclyn Kelso handled most of the heavy lifting and delivered a strong performance. However, I’ve always been a fan of Aiden Snow, and hearing his voice here was an absolute treat, he’s one of those narrators who instantly pulls you into the world, and I love hearing him in the spicy scenes 😜
A gripping listen, overall. If you're into sultry suspense with sharp writing and character-driven charm, Enigma is worth your time.
