3-3.5 I’m not sure about this book. It reminded me of ALL other classic romance book plots, but with slight twist. I don’t know. I’m conflicted.

Interesting take on Pandora's Box, but the romance ruined it for me. Girl instantly becomes attached to the male lead just because he "made the voices go away"? Any sane woman would have been more wary about some strange man even with the supposed "connection". Ugh.

such a good start to this series-can't wait to get more. review to come

totally awesome

Good start !!!

This was a good start to this series at times I really enjoyed this story and at other times I thought it fell a bit flat but overall it was a decent enough read and I loom forward to reading some if the other demons books

Although I don’t dislike the paranormal romance genre, it’s just not one I’ve sought out over the years. I’ve read a few here and there and really enjoyed quite a few of them, so I’m not sure what held me back from seeking out more of the genre. A few weeks back my niece asked me if I had ever read this series. It’s also not a genre she reads a lot, but a coworker had recommended it so she passed on the info. She was told it had a lot of funny bits. Well, I’m a sucker for a romance that also makes me laugh. That’s how I came to give this paranormal romance a try.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I’ve always been fascinated with mythology. The Greeks, the Romans, the Titans, folklore from China…it all captivates me. I was overjoyed when I realized this series deals a lot with mythology. Maddox and his family are warriors who were cursed by the Greek gods.

The connection between Maddox and Ashlyn is instantaneous and wonderfully delicious. Although Maddox has Violence inside of him, there is something about Ashlyn that helps to even out his temperament. And Ashlyn gets a reprieve from her “gift” when she’s around Maddox. While this is a huge reason these two are drawn to each other, it’s not the only reason. Their spark is undeniable.

Since this is the first book in this series, I did have to stop and think once in a while to keep the family straight. That’s only because there is a lot of information the author needed to include to pave the way for the rest of the series, I’m sure. Don’t worry. It didn’t take long, and I soon got to know everyone’s personality.

I've read my fair share of paranormal romance and I have noticed that over the years this genre no longer entices me like it did. In this case, I considered the whole story quite similar to Ward’s “Black Dagger Brotherhood” series.

I found it difficult to relate to the characters. Ashlyn has a dependent personality, is reckless and childish. Maddox is another alpha male character with a dark and violent past. Meh ... more of the same.

The novel isn’t credible. The chemistry seems forged and hasty. The action scenes aren’t particularly well described and the characters are undeveloped. Not to mention how all the action develops in a very few days.

This novel couldn’t captivate me. I don’t think it's a good option for those who have already read several books of this gender.

ME = MAN - SO POWERFUL AND DANGEROUS NO ONE CAN STOP ME! But what is this? A gorgeous fragile woman with low self esteem that constantly needs rescuing? And what is that you say? You cant stay away from her, and are both suddenly in a love so strong that it conquers all things and completely changes both your personalities?

I believe after her first orgasm, (because of course shes a virgin) one of first her thoughts was: " I AM NOW HIS WOMAN" I think it even had the all caps. Sigh.

Really? Can we all get over this bullshit already? Or at least have some kind of label so that women who actually want to read sexy books without the whole - ME MAN, YOU WOMAN thing, know to stay far farr away.

What I wouldn't give for a well written hot paranormal erotica novel that has a strong female MC and doesn't involve the words Anita Blake.

DNF

I read a lot of ridiculous books, because I read to pass time and am not usually looking for some deep introspective journey.

This load of garbage, however, was too much to take. It was like a parody of a PNR novel. The dialogue was mostly one word grunts and angst filled knuckle biting. I made it nearly halfway through (it did help me fall asleep twice) before I just felt too embarrassed to even finish reading it. I can’t believe this is such a long running series, and that it looks like the subsequent books have good reviews.

Also, just because you’re writing romance novels doesn’t mean the people reading them are morons who don’t deserve things like plot and character development.

And lastly, this book contained all my romance novel pet peeves: women kidnapped and held captive in a strange place who can’t manage to think of anything but how sexy their captors are, “dainty, beautiful, sweet smelling” women who haven’t had a shower or brushed their teeth in days, and big hulking men who think of nothing but grinding one out with said woman but then have a change of heart and decide they want to coddle her instead.

The list is longer than that, but I’ve already put more effort into writing this review than the author put into writing the book.
