I know many liked this one better than 3 and 4, and I did like it, but... There were too many annoyances for me. I just couldn't believe nobody would trust anybody, everyone would be so rude so continually for so long. If there had been more compromise, more believable behavior sooner, I would have liked it more. That said, I'm waiting for number 6.

Five books in and we're still having fun. I love the idea behind the Ex series. What if the zombie apocalypse happened in a world where superheroes were just starting to take off? In each book, the world gets a little bigger. In this case, we come across a community of boats out in the Pacific.
I'd love to see the whole series adapted into graphic novel and television form. I'm also curious to see what happens in the next book. I'm hoping to learn more about the super-samurai who has managed to build his own community in Japan. Or maybe even something involving the Russians or the Middle East. There's so many more stories to be told.

The fifth book in a series about superheroes in the midst of a zombie apocalypse.
St. George, Zzzap, Stealth, and the other heroes are still holding on to the Mount against the zombie hordes, with a constant struggle to keep the dead out, and the living fed. After a disastrous fire destroys much of their food source, they have to take a risk that may lead to more deaths.
And then Zzap discovers an island of boats floating in the Pacific--more survivors that could need help, or be a source of help for the Mount. Not everyone has survived by benign means, however--and this simple visit is going to turn out to be anything but.
Another adventure-packed story, with alternating points of view from the various heroes, moving between the past and present, revealing a few secrets as the plot unfolds. There's a little humor amid the fighting and struggles, and plenty of high-action scenes to keep your attention riveted. A great read for superhero, zombie, and dystopian fans.

After two mediocre entries into the series, [b:Ex-Isle|24726335|Ex-Isle (Ex-Heroes, #5)|Peter Clines|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1432661376s/24726335.jpg|44352693] brings us back to the good stuff. My favorite of the series has been [b:Ex-Patriots|17162429|Ex-Patriots (Ex-Heroes, #2)|Peter Clines|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1364852618s/17162429.jpg|16919836] -- the heroes left the Mount, they went in search of others, zombie-fighting, Barry dropping geek knowledge -- all good times. A lot of the same happened here, except it was a divide and conquer situation.
Barry, George, and Madelyn flew across the ocean and met a group of survivors with some interesting ideas about what happened. Stealth stayed behind at the Mount and we really didn't have to read a lot of her stilted dialogue. Danielle, Caesar, and the super soldiers went to Eden -- a garden they've found that they're using as an outpost and a way to increase their food supply.
One thing I really like about this series is that it isn't about the "end of the world". It's much more about rebuilding after the end of civilization and making it work.

Definitely a step back up from the last book. Still and quick and enjoyable read.
The problems facing the now successful community of the Mount are the problems which would face any community continuously surrounded by enemies... like fire fighting, maintenance, feeding your population, and population expansion. The encounters seemed more logical and believable in both reason and action.
The flashbacks seemed a bit more gratuitous however... I wondered if the flashbacks of the Gorgon or a early-in-the-outbreak memory of the Mighty Dragon were going to lead anywhere, but... not in this book. Speaking of this, there are also some unresolved cliff-hangers and this series is obviously planned or at least one (if not several) more novels.
