What a great poolside read! Written in a format similar to an advice column Brammer touches on topics most, if not all LGBTQAI2+ individuals can relate to. Tying in personal experiences, humor and the harsh realities of growing up queer in the 2000’s, I felt at times his columns were speaking directly to me and my insecurities in early and current development.

I would recommend this read to anyone, but especially those who are still on the journey of self discovery. Great choice for book clubs or classrooms as it opens up so much space for conversation.

** If you’re a fellow Sooner, do your colleague the service of grabbing a copy of this book. We can all relate to JP’s experiences in one small-town Oklahoman way or another.**

A lot of heart and generous insights. As always, some essays were stronger than others, but the whole felt cohesive and well collected.

A great audiobook. Brammer is sometimes referred to as the queer Latinx Cheryl Strayed. And as a huge fan of Strayed and her writing, that meant my expectations for this were very high. And they were met. Brammer has a gift with words and his anecdotes were at times funny, at times sad, at times poignant but always spot on. I love his candor and willingness to share about being a person of color and queer and the many struggles that has caused him. This is a great listen. Brammer’s voice is so soothing and calm. I would highly recommend this book.

I really like JP Brammer's writing.

I loved this honest and hilarious memoir!

I liked this book more than I thought I would. Hola Papi! is so very funny. I found myself laughing out loud, several times while reading. John Paul's memoir is like a kind of therapy, a naming and coming to terms with his past and present. I've been trying to do the same and it's nice to feel like you have a fellow traveler.

A fantastic memoir-in-letters that creates such a movie narrative of constructing, and reconstructing, identity that celebrates how one can disagree with who you used to be.

The first non-fanfiction writing I've read from start to finish in many months. And it was fantastic!
