Hmmm not as compelling as the first but it was still good. I like that it was about someone else in the same place. This time it's about Candy Pickens. I wasn't expecting Candy to be tied into the swamp. Nova got downright a little too hopeful, I mean she thought taking someone's finger would fix everything. Now this book isn't scary but it does have the mystery factor that makes it perfect for fall time or anytime. Whenever you need a dash of spook in your reading.

I like Sterling and I don't know Abigail is like a third wheel support character. I don't know abut the rest of the characters. This is a fast story because everything starts happening kinda quick after the first few chapters. I did like it though it was good and enjoyable.

A stunning companion to BEWARE THE WILD. This book returns to the characters of Sticks, LA, though perspective shifts from the narrator of the first book to one of her friends. Candace Pickens rang true and human as she sought the secrets about herself and the town she grew up in - even as she faced problems far more realistic than the magic of the swamp.

4.5. Almost as good as the first book. Almost everything about this book was great, and I loved the way it expanded in the swamp lore laid down by the first book. The only place this book went wrong was with the boys, specifically Gage and Riley, but also Quentin. There was just too much going on with them to the point where there actually was never enough, as in Gage's role was almost insignificant despite him seeming important in the beginning, Riley's complete 180 from antagonist to sweet love interest left me expecting a twist that never came, and Quentin was irritatingly the most fleshed out of the three boys when he really didn't deserve to be. I also expected more background development for Abigail, and now I'm left desperately hoping that she'll get her own book despite Goodreads not having it listed, it would be wrong for Sterling and Candy to get one each but not Abigail.

Awesome book, glad to be in this world again with these characters! I have a question or two, but I really enjoyed this book!

While the story in Beware the Wild caught my interest within the first two chapters, Behold the Bones wasn't quite as lucky. For starters, I'm not a fan of Candy as a character. I find her brash, rude, unnecessarily abrasive and overall not fun to read about. Her character is well written, because that's exactly the way she's meant to come across, but I don't enjoy reading an entire book based on her narrative.

The story itself also wasn't as intriguing or gripping as Beware the Wild was. There were a few moments of interest and some potentially engaging plot points, but I found they weren't expanded on enough for me to actually attach myself to them. I don't feel this book was a necessary sequel to an otherwise good first story.

VERY disappointed on who she ended up with??? like what? even though it made much more sense for her to be with person2, what the fuck! i was rooting for person1, and we literally got no background for person2. he was just a dick half the book and the other half he became the man😍😍! smh.

I had no idea that there was a previous book before I read this one. While reading this one I a bit confused and thought I was missing something, and now I know why, but other than those brief moments of confusion I found that the book was pretty good. I enjoyed the characters and the setting was pretty sweet. My only issue was the romance in the book. It felt kind forced, not sure if that's the right word, at times. Like it could have been better without it.

A strong 3.5 stars - a bit less creepy than the first, kind of felt like the idea for two stories crammed into one. I wish the whole television show plot device had been left out. This is at it's best when dealing with ghosts and gore.

I was tempted to give this book 4.5 stars, like I did the first one, but I had to dock it a bit because it literally took half the book for me to actually get into it. Although, once I was in, I was in. I also had to dock it a bit for a couple issue that made themselves vaguely known in Beware the Wild, but got more attention in this book. I didn't necessarily love how both Abigail's blackness and gayness felt shoehorned in for diversity. Abigail is literally the only non-white, non-straight character in these books and I find that a little ridiculous. Although, these books are pretty diverse when compared to a lot of other prominent YA work... it's a problem. We need more diversity in books.

Besides the relative lack of diversity, I really enjoyed this book. I was a little bored by Candy's perspective at first, and it took me a while to get into it because the first half of the book is pretty light on the paranormal stuff, but once the ghost sightings picked up I started enjoying it more. I just wish that Phin had been in it. The first book was literally all about rescuing Phin and he's literally mentioned about twice throughout this entire sequel. It's kind of a bummer. But Sterling was a pretty prominent side character, and I was glad to see her back. Although she felt more two dimensional this time around, I guess as a side character that's only to be expected.

Overall I really liked, borderline loved, this duology and would highly recommend to anyone who likes paranormal/ghost stories.
