DID NOT FINISH: 39%

It was interesting, but I kept getting side tracked by other books.
Will try again another time.

Llegué al final de #Dante2018. Me parece medio ridículo ponerle estrellas.

One of the most influential books I've ever read. Utterly fascinating. Dante was a genius of the written word to have cleverly disguised his contempt of the Catholic Church behind his macabre piece of work.

book #35 of 2020: The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri (pub. 1320). well, I’m pretty I never would’ve gotten through it if it weren’t audio. it’s certainly a masterpiece and I’m really glad I finally got to it, but it’s also an endless slog that I more endured than enjoyed. of the classical literature I’ve checked out this year: this, Paradise Lost, Faust, and Herodotus’ Histories, I can definitely recommend the last two and I may someday register to Herodotus, but there’s a lot of other stuff to check out before that happens. 3/5. and now for something completely different....

i'm not gonna lie... i kinda zoned out for a lot of it. but what i was conscious for was kiiiiiinda boring. sure, i can see why some old guys lots of years ago enjoyed it- dante's ideas were probably pretty interesting to them.

however, i was watching "the good place" while also reading this book, and the show did the whole afterlife thing better, imo.

Everyone should read The Divine Comedy at least once in their lifetime but if you can fit an extra reading in, read it again!
