cried at the end but i love this book sm
author does a very good job of describing stuff though i will say it’s a bit of a slow read at first but towards the end i just couldn’t put it down
overall a great book i’m a huge fan of dystopian so this really worked but it gets 4 stars because i think the end was a little rush and i really think the author could have spaced it out a little better maybe
i also wish we could have seen more of alex and hana cause i think they would have been great friends

I just realized that I didn't rate Delirium despite reading it over a month ago. Shame on me.
I've really been getting into these YA dystopian books that keep me flipping the pages in girlish delight. This book had all the elements I wanted. Lead gal/heroine who is a little bit of of a pansy but eventually makes us quite proud of her, a kick-ass best friend who says all the honest things no one else will say, and a swoon worthy young lad who knows how to treat a woman right. Mix in a bunch of secrets and a little thing called L-O-V-E, and you have...WAIT. Did I say love? It just so happens that love is frowned upon (and by frowned upon, I mean punishable by prison or death) in Lena's society. I found this to be a interesting premise and although it could be an exaggeration that people should be treated for love because they could die or kill over it, it wasn't really that far of a stretch. Love makes us do some crazy crap.
The perk of this book (besides a cool story line and characters I actually started to really care about) was the writing itself. Lauren Oliver knows how to use her words and creates some really beautiful passages. She also has the ability to describe the society/environment/surroundings in a way that doesn't make me go, "Wha???"

I absolutely adored this book and the whole Delirium series.
Lauren Oliver did her job excellent. The way she describes the world, the rules, people, relationship. I can't help admiring it so much. I am so grateful for this book.
It doesn't seem like the books I've read. It is unique.
What I loved the most:
² The plot! It was incredible and new and interesting and so excellent. You read and get acquainted with people, who are living in a country where love is a disease.
² The characters. Oh God, I admire all of them in this book. ALL. OF. THEM. The way they are described, the way Lena sees them, the way she is developing as a person.
² The beginning of chapters. It gave personally me a clearer view on things which are going on in Portland and in all big cities of the USA. Especially I admired a verse about werewolves, vampires and invalids. And there were quotes which helped to understand the policy of the government and the believes of citizens, who were cured.
² The describing and the way of writing. Gray ocean, free like a bird, autumn leaves, the Wilds, truth and lies, hate and love, panics, parties, raids. It is such a pleasure to read. It is described so colorful and brightly, emotionally and i can't stay indifferent.
² You never know what to expect. I was reading and didn't know what should i expect from Lena or any of the characters in the book. I like such kind of books.

I loved this book. And i loved Alex very much too.
This book is great. Personally i enjoyed it very much. Every chapter, sentence, quote, phrase, word. It was combined so right. Lauren Oliver is definitely a great author. Thank you for this love, for this love story we can share with others.
"I love you. Remember. They cannot take it."
I own the whole trilogy and I have no idea why. Probably because I have a weakness for mass market paperbacks. Probably because I hate not having all the books in a series.
Honestly, I found this story to be bland. Nothing really happens and this is a 521 paged edition. 521 pages of nearly nothing. 521 pages of listening to her hang onto a memory of her mother and blaming her mom for the situations she find herself.
The main protagonist is a bit annoying. I just did not connect with her at all. One chapter she wants to experience love, the next chapter she wants to get rid of it. Please make up your mind.
I found myself skimming through some parts of the book because honestly, they bore the hell out of me.
I like Alex though. He seems like an interesting guy, but the instalove -not a fan of-.
Honestly, the good thing about this story was the fact that it's easy to read. And really fast. You can easily get this done in one sitting.
In the end, not a fan of this, but I will probably read volume 2 because I'm trash and don't like leaving series unfinished, unless it's really really bad. This is ok, very YA very 2012, but I was not impressed. There was so much hype around it, I don't get it. I really don't.
Did we really have such poor taste in books in 2012?

I have a new favorite young adult trilogy! The first book, Delirium, quickly becomes an addicting read. I can't wait to get my hands on the next one. While I've recently become a fan of novels set in dystopian societies, Lauren Oliver has an original idea for hers - Love is a disease and citizens are cured of it before becoming adults.
I love the quotes she begins each chapter with, often samples from this societies propaganda. I enjoy Oliver's ideas and the many reinforcements throughout the novel about love, life, happiness, and the necessity of unhappiness or pain. After all the opposite of love isn't hate, it's indifference. There is one awful scene where the main character, Lena, discovers this. Animal lovers beware! I almost put the book down, but reminded myself it's fiction and cuddled my pup.
Oliver also handles the teen love story angle with maturity and authenticity. I found the story of Lena and Alex to be both beautiful and believable (well as believable as fiction gets). Their connection feels real. Her writing isn't over the top or mushy. Lena starts out a strong independent young woman and remains so.
The book is set in Portland, Maine which instantly endeared it to me. I also wanted to mention how much I love the beautiful cover!

I loved this book! It’s a dystopian novel where love is considered a disease and at 18, you get ‘cured’ of it. At first, Lena can’t wait for her procedure. She counts the days and follows all the rules until the unexpected happens. She breaks all the rules in the book and falls in love.
I thought this was an amazing book and it kept me on edge throughout the whole thing. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good dystopian romance story.
