Comme ci, comme ça.

I never felt like anything was integrated well. The mission from Vol 1 is brought up in a round about way at the end of Night of Owls, but we never find out how the girls shook off the mind control, whose soul is in Katana's sword, where the real villain is...shouldn't that be like priority one? Instead we get a Night of Owls crossover, a mission to the Amazon, and the issue #0 flashback.

I did like issue #0, but I'm not really feeling the whole thing with Canary's husband and
Spoilera second teammate betraying her. Really? Girl is the worst judge of character.

maybe this works as part of a series, idk, but as a volume it's just... bad.

you introduce the
husband murder
plot on the first issue and then it just. goes away completely until the literal last page, so it just feels like a dropped plot thread.

i'm like 99% sure the second issue was some kind of event tie-in, which is fun when you're following the event in real time, but you take it out and put it in a volume and it's like, ok, why are we wasting time with this.

the whole poison ivy goes rogue cause she's dying plotline was alright? the heroes were sooo pressed about lightly threatening some absolute scumbag billionaires, eternal eyeroll, plus it felt like it was over too fast, like she turned them into hostages at the end of one issue, at the end of the next issue she was dead. i feel like it wouldve been an interesting scenario to explore longer.

also, this was the first book ive read with starling and she's just. annoying. like mcu darcy as a superspy but with none of the charm. the rest of the characters' writing was also just sort of meh

⭐️⭐️- ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Contains spoilers for Volume 1.

Volume 2 is everything Volume 1 wasn’t- it’s a messy compilation of shorter adventures that misses the big picture.

One of the biggest mistakes in comic book narration is faulty coherence. Volume 1 set up a fast-paced adventure. It ended with a cliffhanger. Naturally, the readers expect their questions to be answered in the next volume. That’s just logical.

Instead, we got Volume 2. Several shorter adventures are combined to expand the characters’ background, but the main questions aren’t answered.

1. In Volume 1, the characters face memory loss and some weird episodes. They seem to be getting brainwashed. Yet, this is never explained.

2. The main antagonist supposedly survives (according to Katana); however, the antagonist is nowhere to be seen in Volume 2? Maybe don’t end Volume 1 with that cliffhanger if you aren’t going to continue this plot?

3. Poison Ivy is supposed to die within hours due to the antagonist’s manipulation. Yet, this is never touched upon again?

If I hadn’t read Volume 1 just a few days ago, I would have missed these coherence issues, which is why I’ve rated the book 2 stars.

Don’t get me wrong, Volume 2 has its moments. Some artwork is beautiful, I liked the Black Canary flashbacks. I could have given Volume 2 3 stars, but I’m honestly sick of plot problems.

This was all over the place. Time-wise and story-wise. There's a bit of the Night of the Owls event in here, there's some of Canary's past, there's some oddness with Poison Ivy, there's a bit where they meet as a team for the first time. It just felt like it jumped around too much, as soon as I became at all interested in a story line it went on to something else. And some story lines weren't really that interesting to begin with. So, hoping this gets better. Definitely miss the old Birds of Prey.

Liked it a little better than volume 1 but paradoxically it is because the story wasn't as strong. That allowed the graphics to tell more of the story and made it a little better graphic novel overall. Probably won't bother with any more of the series at this point.

I really can’t seem to catch a break or find a good story with anything in the “New 52” realm. Who knowingly recruits a villain (Poison Ivy) onto their team, then when they show their true colours is butthurt by the revelation. The whole Dinah Lance wanted for the murder of her husband (with whom is of no real consequence in the DCU) is dumb. Then toss in Amanda Waller into the mix & now suddenly Starling is working for her is also a bit lame. I did enjoy the Court of Owls tie-in as well as the Issue #0 story & artwork.

By Cthulhu I can’t believe I bought these graphic novels & still have 3 more volumes to stomach before I can be done with this

I don't understand how a volume 2 could touch on almost none of volume 1. Its constantly going back and forth in time and never seems to explain where Poison Ivy is or what happened to the villain in the last issue. I probably won't bother with anymore of these.
