Tossed between emotions, truly one of the best books I have ever read. The most spoiled & selfish main characters I’ve ever read but this book & these characters made me lose sleep multiple nights in a row because I couldn’t get enough.

I cannot express. How much I DESPISE. Fricken Scarlett O’hara /Hamilton/Kennedy/Butler.
She is the most self centred, stuck up, spoiled, and idiotic character I’ve ever encountered. Are you supposed to hate main characters this much?? Nothing is ever ever good enough for this woman. She barely learns how to appreciate anything until it is literally to late.

Rhett hit the nail right on the head when he refers to Scarlett as a child. Although the story took place over many years, Scarlett has zero character development. And remains a child.

Beautifully written, but eff you Scarlett. Tomorrow is another day.

OK - i am fairly sure this will turn out to be the best book i've read in 2018. It took a while, over 1000 pages, and through 2 vacation trips, but this is an excellent story. It is rich and engaging from start to finish. Gone with the Wind fully deserves it's place on the must-read lists and among the classics of American literature. I am itching to see the film again now. What a wonderfully written and told story of epic proportion. 6 stars from me.

As usual, a better story than the movie.

I read when I first moved to Charleston because it seemed appropriate at the time. Part of what made it fun for me was knowing some of the geography.

I'm glad I read it but it isn't one I'll go back to. In spite of the topic ans setting, it wasn't quite a bodice ripper (or burning plantation novel, as my husband calls them), but close enough that one rad is enough for me.

This book was incredible. Sometimes slow going, but for the most part a very captivating read. The main character, Scarlett, was easy to both love and hate throughout the various stages of her life in the novel. Mitchell's attention to detail, and ability to describe the time period was immaculate. Highly recommend.

Wow! I honestly don't know what to say. I'm still hung up over the ending...ah I can't believed that happened, ah!

Ok so parts I didn't like...
So I always feel it's sad when you hate the main character, but well I found it really hard to like Scarlett. She was just a little to well self centered, she thought only of herself, wouldn't open up to anyone, was greedy, and couldn't get over Ashely. For crying out loud he's married and there are many other men and much better ones at that. Yea... E en a thousand pages later and still don't really like her.

Ok now what I loved about the book.
First of all I just like fell in love with Rhett, he was the only person able to bring Scarlett down a notch. Many people might think him and gentlemen, but I think he was like the gentleman of all gentlemen.
I also loved the time period written in, you got to see how the world effected the south. How it effect Scarlett and well everyone. One day they are happy and rich, the next barley hanging on with only their pride to guid them. Scarlett had to make many choices on how reconstruction would affect her and the people she most cared out.

All in all I'm like in love with this book, just a tad frustrated on how it ended.

There is a reason some books are classics. This is one such title.
Everyone should experience the plethora of emotions that this book evokes deep in one's conscience. Oh, to be as strong-willed as Scarlett, as rougish as Rhett, as kind-hearted as Melly, as genteel as Ashley or as fervent as The Old Guard. Or to know the loyalty and love of Mammy, Pork, Dilcey, Archie or Uncle Peter. This book made me long for people and times that I have never or never will know. Also, is a harsh mirror of our society in which love is measured in the length of calls and the swiftness of replies of "texts".

At the start, Scarlett may not seem worthy of being at the helm of a book and a movie which is recognised world over as a classic, but stick with her, she may surprise you yet, all while earning your grudging respect.

Everyone should read this book so that at the end, they can realise through our wonderful protagonist that the people we love most are the ones who are subject to the most hurt at our hands.

I only pray that one day, when I am in a similar place, I choose to cherish and celebrate the person who is my happiness as they are, rather than clothe him in a suit I have made myself, before it is too late.

I hated this book and I will be thankful to never have to read it again.
