Just as interesting and well-placed as the first one, which happens far less often than I'd like. Looking forward to part 3!

3.25 stars!
Unfortunately, this second book disappointed a little bit. I felt less invested in the romance and the plot moved more slowly than I liked. There are some great moments and lines too though.

"I wished that love could be simple, that it was always a given and returned in the same measure, equally and at the same time, that all the planets aligned in a perfect way to dispel all doubts, that it was easy to understand and never painful."

There were some loose ends that never got fully addressed, so I am interested still to see where the story goes in Book 3!

I liked this book way better than the first, it was 10 times better than the first, but it also made me appreciate reading the first book, because the first book helped with the world-building. I'm excited to read the last book in this series.

The Heart of Betrayal is a gripping sequel that kept me on edge, even as I wished Lia would decide on the tangled web of loyalties and love surrounding her. Yet, her refusal to bend to anyone’s will and her determination to chart her path were genuinely inspiring. Everyone around her had their agendas, but Lia’s resilience and ability to think critically about her beliefs and choices made her stand out.

I really liked reading as Lia learned and grew to appreciate Vendan culture, there wasn’t very much action or any big plot points, it was all filler for the finale.
