This is my favorite book in the history of words. Tina Fey is a female Conan O'Brien. I knew this book would be hilarious, but I didn't expect it to be so smart, touching, and honest.

I really enjoyed this book. I had been excited to read it since it came out, but I have to say it even exceeded my expectations. Fey is a terrifically funny writer and she includes stories about so many different aspects of her life from her time writing for SNL to going through puberty or planning her daughter's Peter Pan birthday party. I got so much out of this book and constantly wanted to quote bits out loud to my husband but after awhile I stopped because I noticed I was practically just reading the book out loud to him and he's perfectly capable of reading it himself when I'm done!

The book was really funny. This book was a series of essays/memoir about Tina Fey's life. A great mixture of jokes, feminism, gender politics, and camp. She also touched on homophobia in her hometown and dealing with friendships with her gay friends as well(Two of the best stories, essays in the book). Her stories about her family and raising her daughter was also enjoyable. I also liked that she never took herself too seriously. My favorite chapter is the one about magazine covers. I really enjoyed her breakdown of how she developed and worked on 30 Rock and SNL. She had great insights about gender politics especially when discussing SNL. There was a few off color jokes that even though they were funny, were problematic and maybe not needed.. Overall, a surprisingly good read.

First off, I have a major girl-crush on Tina Fey so I was pre-disposed to love this book. Bossypants had a nice balance to it that many memoirs lack. She wasn't overly self-congratulatory and she didn't take the self-deprecation too far either. I enjoyed reading about her growing-up and college years as well as the workings of SNL and 30 Rock. She also had some incredibly funny things to say about breastfeeding.
I will say, if you like Tina Fey, you'll probably love this book. If you think that she was unjust in her portrayal of Sarah Palin, then you should probably go read something by Glenn Beck.

Tina Fey does not disappoint. I found her book both insightful and hilarious. While I didn't laugh out loud as often as I anticipated, when I did laugh it because a silent except when needing to snort laugh. Those are my favorite. Definitely a quick read!
