I really enjoyed this "feel good" story. Call me a sap, but I still like a story where the underdog triumphs. Also, the author has done a great job with her character development.

This books does a lot of things. It's a story about a new friendship, about establishing a social group, about body acceptance, the reality of popularity... and it's a romance. These ideas fit together well enough, but sometimes they get skimped on, or the transitions are rough.

Millie and Callie (the girls on the cover) are very different people, but both are at a time when their lives need to change, and the upheavals bring them together. They each have something to offer one another, but only if they can be open to it.

A cute, feel good story, with plenty of drama and some complex characters. Unlike in Dumplin', two teens get a POV, though there are some secondary characters I was curious to know more about. Maybe there will be a book 3.

The book was mediocre at first and devolved into awful by the end. Unrelatable characters. Unlikely scenarios. The diversity of characters by ethnicity was minimal. Diversity by sexual orientation was more than usual in a book, but it really felt like the author was trying so hard to be inclusive she forgot to make the characters believable or relateable. The asexual character was so one dimensional and superfluous you could really tell her only purpose was to be the token asexual character, which is insulting.

Such a cute and feel good story. I laughed and cried.

I think I liked Willowdean better than Milly and Callie. I kinda think Callie got off too easy, but a fun read all the same.

Loved this book as much as I loved the first. Did not disappoint in any way!

This book didn't grab me as quickly as Dumplin'. I even put the book down to read another in between. Millie didn't seem as strong a main character as Willowdean, and Callie was pretty unlikeable. But I warmed up over time. As I kept going, I got into the characters and story more and more. The end was a little over the top with things wrapping up. But when I thought about Millie's love for rom coms, it worked.

I liked this one more than Dumplin'!

This is another fantastic body positive read from Julie Murphy. We first met Millie and Callie in the novel Dumplin’ when Millie was competing in the Miss Teen Blue Bonnet Pageant with her other non-typical pageant hopeful friends.

I really loved Dumplin'. Puddin is lacking all the Dolly Parton love – that was Willowdean’s thing -- I still loved getting to know these fierce and authentic characters.

Young adult novels may not be your thing, but Puddin’ and Dumplin’ are worth giving a try. They are quick reads – which are perfect for a day by the pool – and these characters will inspire you to defy stereotypes and embrace who you are, not what you look like.

Thanks to the publisher for the advance reading copy.

I thought the author did a better job at developing characters in this book as opposed to Dumplin - they were multi faceted and more complex. However, I wasn’t super crazy about the two characters she chose to explore, though they weren’t bad. The story was cute and a fun extension of the first book, but I thought Dumplin was a more complete, rounded story (though missing some character development).
