Interesting concept but hard to really connect with the characters. It was depressing how little a mother and daughter talked, especially with major health issues occurring.

Actual rating 3.75 (Don't ask why it's 3.75. It just is.)

An incredibly quick read, considering it's all done in ''post it'' notes left on the refrigerator door.

As annoying as I found both Claire and her mother to be sometimes (with everything that was going on, they really couldn't find the time to discuss certain things IN PERSON? They had to leave each other notes about it?), it really was a sweet book. I'll totally own up to the fact that I cried at the end.

This book was so simple but such a beautiful read. It was notes between a mother and daughter (who is coming of age) dealing with life and struggles. It was beautiful. It’s a epistolary novel which I love.

However the lack of communication the mother and Claire got to have in the book annoyed me with such topics I will not mention here. As I sat there after I read it, it makes me realise that was the intent of the author to make it shown how communication is so important in our lives and that we should make time for those who we love.

Life on the Refrigerator Door is a novel written entirely in the form of short notes between mother and daughter left--amazingly--on the door of the fridge. The mother is a single mother who works long hours as an OB doctor. The daughter, Claire, is fifteen and a normal teenager. The two rarely see each other and resort to leaving short notes to communicate. The notes range from shopping lists and reminders to heartfelt communication that cannot be spoken aloud. Their relationship undergoes a drastic change when Claire's mother finds a lump in her breast and both women have to grow up much quicker than they would like.

I really liked this super-quick read. Sure it's predictable and yes, the characters probably should do more communicating face-to-face. But there are always things that are easier to write rather than say in person and Kuipers nails that with this novel. Good commentary on our fast-paced society and realizing what actually matters.

started crying around page 20 and didn’t stop. good in a sad way.
