Easily, one of the WORST books I have ever read. Is there any mother/daughter story out there that does not include breast cancer and little spoiled brat having to grow up too fast (who doesn't until it's too late)? This is just so blatant in its forced drama. The characters are totally bland. You know what stood for characterization in this? The mother used "darling" profusely, and the daughter used gratuitous amounts on punctuation. I know how much heart and soul gets put into a book, so as badly as I feel about saying this- this book should never have been published.

The title of this book is what attracted my attention. When I first picked it up, I didn't think I was going to read it all, so I went straight to the end and read the last page (sorry..!). I was then hooked, and started reading the book from the start. I thought knowing the ending already would make it less sad for me, but I was wrong. I found myself on the verge of tears by the end of it, despite knowing what was coming.
Although at first I found the transition from Claire's last note before her Mother's death to her note after her death quite abrupt, I quickly realized and appreciated that that's just how life is – there was no way Claire would've known which note would be her last.
This was truly an emotional read. Some may think the story's "setting" (the refrigerator door) is unrealistic, but this is the reality for many. Being a student/working "child" (young adult) of a single working mother, many of our important conversations are had through text messages, and I imagine our texts would've been refrigerator notes had we been living in a pre-smartphone era.

𝖗𝖆𝖙𝖎𝖓𝖌: ⭐⭐⭐ ½
𝖗𝖊𝖛𝖎𝖊𝖜: Very simple but effectively heartbreaking novella, I can't say I expected more or less from the book only because I knew it was so short and quick to read. It was a little bit generic as of storytelling but I can understand and sympathize about the fact this happens to millions of people across the globe - I've never experienced this firsthand but some of my loved ones have, and I understand how difficult this can be. Just clearing that I don't think that the situation of having cancer is generic, but the development of the story is. Still such a saddening story and the last few letters and notes put a lump in my throat.
𝖋𝖆𝖛𝖔𝖚𝖗𝖎𝖙𝖊 𝖖𝖚𝖔𝖙𝖊𝖘:
— “I don't need a summer vacation. I just want you to get better.”
— “Is there anything you want, Mom?
Write it down. C
To feel better. Mom.”
— “When the road bends
We'll be on it together,
Taking the curve
Clinging
To each other, like mother
To daughter,
To mother.”
— “And I don't want a ''better mother.'' I have you.”
