Extremely boring. Really struggled to get through this, mostly due to how it's written but also because there are no actionable takeaways to be had from this book. There are a lot of issues posed, but no real solutions. A lot of the information is also very obvious.

3 1/2 stars. I didn’t find any fresh ideas in about the first third of the book, and the author’s choppy writing style can be distracting. But once he got into empathy, trust, and perspective, it got more interesting for me. Great overview of how good marketers don’t solve their company’s problems...they solve other people’s problems.

1.5 stars. Damn, this book pretty much sucked. I don’t think I learned a single thing and now I’ll probably be forever hesitant to read another marketing book. There weren't hardly any concrete examples of good marketing, no specific research, no thesis, no fun facts, no modern-day stats or data…nothing. Jut short chapters of vague, ambiguous pieces of “advice” that had no true meaning and therefore felt super boring. The book got repetitive and felt like a massive waste of time, I didn’t highlight a single note throughout. As a marketing professional, I highly recommend not reading this book.

Seth tries to change your mindset about marketing. In short, this book tells you how you need to find your niche and make your own tribe along with the audience (fans) that cares about you. If you are a marketer looking for smaller but higher-quality prospects, this is the book for you.

“Marketing is the generous act of helping others become who they seek to become. It involves creating honest stories—stories that resonate and spread.”
