Ah, If I Fix You. You are such an amazing book, and you simultaneously broke and mended my heart. If I Fix You is one of the most beautifully-written books I've read, and to this day I still feel the emotions I felt when I first read it. I may not remember exactly what transpired, but my heart constricts just a bit at the remembrance of what it made me feel.

What I loved about this book was how much I truly connected with the main character and how much I truly felt everything that happened in the book. I was so invested and I couldn't help feel what the characters were feeling. I was able to put myself in their positions, and not all authors are capable of doing that.

Another thing I loved is the friendship and the romance. I can't even say much about this for the fear of spoilers, but I truly loved it. I loved how there was no rivalry or planted hate, and how there was just acceptance and wanting the good for the person. Ugh, not sure if I made sense, but it makes sense in my head.

Overall, I loved this book and I felt all the feels. I truly recommend this one!

If I Fix You is the type of story with the right amount of drama, that does not get melodramatic or too poignant. It deals with family and marital issues through the eyes of a seventeen year old girl who finds solace in fixing cars. It is a talent, and soon becomes a distraction to Jill Whitaker when she gets betrayed by the two important people in her life. Jill has always been closer to her father, and shares his passion for cars and fixing them. This causes a rift with her own mother, spiralling into a marital problem that hides a secret from the past. This book deals with misplaced trust and love as well, and how parents are also capable of making mistakes. It shows how the mistakes affect the children, and how they would deal with these issues. It could either make or break their characters, and it goes back to the lessons of moving on and letting go.

You can't fix someone who doesn't want to be fixed. Some things are meant to be broken, other things are fixable, ONLY you can differentiate between them, only you can know when to try harder, and when to let go. It's as simple, as complicated as that.

And this is pretty much what this book is about :D

actual rating 2.5..!

It's true what this book's blurb actually said about the book, Sarah Dessen fans would really love this.

While If I Fix You has a promising plotline, I think somehow it didn't deliver in terms of humor, characterization and dialogue. It's too serious and heavy on drama, which I wouldn't mind maybe, if the book has better characters. The book is very self-righteous and prude, which really bugs me to no end.

I like the main character Jill, and maybe Daniel. But Sean and Claire are so clichéd it's hard for me to endure reading about them throughout the story. I guess not-enough-Jill-and-Daniel is what I'm pointing out here lmao! I like Daniel for Jill more and the ending really disappointed me.

I find it hard to believe age gap and consent are still big deals in the US because duh. As much as I understand the author wanting everything to be PG and legal, I think it wouldn't hurt if Jill actually ends up with someone who appreciates her right away rather than the flirt bestfriend who flirted his way into the whole book. And it's not like being 21 (!!) is considered as ancient yknow.

A lovely story. I really liked he aspect of discovery and healing as well as the relationships in this story, whether they were familial, a friendship, or a romance. The car shop was a nice touch and Jill has a great personality.

The beginning of this didn't really grab me, but it got so much better!- so if you're in a similar position, absolutely keep going. I particularly liked that it wasn't clear who would get the happy ending, as well as the realistic look at a potential age-gap relationship, factoring in both the outside and inside view.
