This has easily become one of the series I love from Jennifer. It has this oomph about it that I don’t get from many books. It could be that it has Gargoyles, called Wardens - a different take than I would have expected, but great all the same.

Layla, who is under the protection of wardens, is half warden herself. But that isn’t enough in the eyes of half of them. They tolerate her and some actually like her but she feels more of a burden than anything. Except with one warden, Zayne. She has hero worshipped him since she was brought into his life and of course, she’s in love with him. However, she has a little quirk, a soul sucking one. Literally. Even if Zayne reciprocated those feelings she could never be with him for fear of feeding off of him.

In comes demon prince Roth, who likes to bring the “bad” out in her. The thing is, he’s a demon so what she deems bad, he deems good. He brings out everything in her that she is and wishes to show the world. He also shows her a different side of things than the wardens have.

Love triangles at it’s best but is there really a competition here? Team Roth all the way!!

This won’t be a good read for anyone who doesn’t like their reads to be highly focused on “does he like me? Does he not?”. If that’s your trope, read on!

I had fun with this book, though I do think of the three paranormal romance series that I have now read from her, this book has the slowest start of them ( the others are the Lux & Covenant seires). Still compelling and most definitely steamy, but probably not the one I would recommend as an introduction to this gifted author.

I love these characters but as always I find the plot to be lacking and not intriguing enough to really make me love the book.

I honestly don’t know if I like or dislike this book. There were so many aspects I liked and so many I disliked that I’m caught in the middle. May read on may not. I dunno I guess I’ll sleep on my thoughts and see how I feel about it later.

I actually ended up really liking this one. At the beginning I wasn't so sure, but it grew on me. Roth & Layla's banter is awesome (much like Katy & Daemon's)! I actually do like them together even though he is the bad boy. Besides, Layla & Zayne are impossible, but I like Zayne too. I liked getting to see Jasmine, missed Dez though :(

Can't wait to see where this goes next!

I actually liked the book. I tend to stay clear of fantasy books but I thought "what the heck" and started to read it. And it turns out that I don't hate it. At the same time, I'm not completely surprised because I read and loved all The Mortal Instruments books but couldn't care less about Throne of Glass.

What I'm actually most excited about, is that one of the wardens, as it turns out, was Estonian. I always get so giddy when the country I live in or my mother tongue is mentioned in books/movies/tv shows. Bare in mind, he used only one word and was never mentioned again, but this still makes me so happy!!!

I don’t get all the hate for this book... then again I don’t get all the hate for tropes and formulaic books. Sometimes that’s exactly what you want or need from a book.

Also this is a teen book! It’s published by Harlequin Teen, so anyone reviewing this as a NA book has missed a step. I read it 100% as a teen book... and I found it very Twilight/Percy Jackson, with a dash of SJ Maas. I have been in a reading funk and had recently read some heavier stories. As a result I was looking for something easy and fun and this fit the bill!

This is an urban teen fantasy/romance novel and I’m here for it. I do have concerns that the love triangle won’t go my way since I’ve heard she let the readers decide their fate... but I’m suuuper late to this party what can I do. I’m definitely having a Twilight moment where I don’t get why she’d go for one over the other because I didn’t like the other guy from the start but oh well haha. Listen don’t hate me but all you Team Jacobs, I literally don’t understand it!!

Anyways we have gargoyles, demons, and humans running around DC causing all kinds of mayhem and there’s loads of will they won’t they, the world is not black or white, and all around prejudice is bad! There’s also some typical high school antics but it’s more of a very distant sub plot. I love her friend Stacy though because she’s 100% true to herself and doesn’t give an eff about anything other than being herself.

Holy demon babies...that was amazing!
Will definitely be putting Jennifer Armentrout on my auto-buy book list because all the books I have read by her so far are AWESOME!

This story is about Layla, a half Gargoyle, half demon. She is hopelessly in love with Zayne, one of the Warden's that are tasked with keeping the world safe from Demons.

Then walks in Roth...ohhhhhh swwwwoooonnnnn. Roth is my FAVOURITE character in this book and I can't wait to find out what else happens in this series. He is so awesome and has a freaking snake called Bambi...Bambi I tell you! Anyway, he is all sorts of awesome and I really hope Layla ends up with him...like seriously I will be so sad if she doesn't end up with him.

So turns out not only is Layla special cause she's half and half, she's also special...well you'll see no spoilers. Anyway, I really enjoyed the story line and I'm looking forward to what the next book will bring. It probably helps like I am a HUGE sucker for books about demons - Larissa Ione's Demonica series is the perfect example of this.

I think some people may get annoyed at all the pop culture references in the book but I really enjoyed them e.g. Supernatural and Princess Bride. I also LOVED the humour which Jennifer always brings to her characters. Roth is particularly funny and adds this whole other level of awesome to his character.

I'm hoping there isn't going to be too much love triangle in this story and I hope that Layla matures a little over the next two books - that is my only critique about this story.

Definite must read for those who are fans of Armentrout.

Look at me, I'm fangirling so much my review has no freaking substance. Jennifer Armentrout's books always leave me so flustered after reading them...uggggghhhh!

Happy Reading! :)
