Though clearly written with a different demographic in mind (female, 30s, yuppie) this book interested me enough for me to finish it. I wouldn't say I liked any of the main characters, so it was hard to care too much about what happened to them.
Kinda strange that I had just finished reading "The Sundial" by Shirley Jackson which is mentioned briefly in the book and I am a fan of Doris Lessing's writing (also mentioned). There aren't a lot of titles or authors that the protagonist talks about so it felt like a weird coincidence.

So this book first grabbed my attention by the title alone and I am so very glad it did because it was nothing short of perfection for me, perfection in a book. I loved the dark humour, it was such an entertaining read, my only complaint is that I finished it way too fast. WE have our main character bookworm Victoria, she has a vivid imagination that helps her write stories about the random strangers she notices at her favorite cafe and also assists her to imagine at least fifty different ways of killing her own grumpy, hygiene obsessed, binge watching husband. Like a lot of bookworms, Victoria just wants to be left alone so she can devour all of the books that she can get her hands on. Victoria escapes into her reading as a means of coping with her miserable, daily planned life with her career oriented, condescending husband Eric and cooking him chicken for dinner. Victoria sees a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel when she finds her soul mate, a charismatic man who frequents same cafe and reads the exact same book she reads. Victoria decides to take her fate into her own hands , she decides to take the matters into her hands, she takes a break from her husband but their families, who arranged their marriage when Victoria failed her parental expectations and Eric divorced from his cheater first wife, have no intention to let Victoria get out of their sight. She’s trapped in her unhappy marriage and she has nobody understands her predicament, even Holly her best friend thinks Eric is the best. A very engaging, dark humoured/sarcastic toned read that I loved loved loved. A definite must read. #bookworm #robinyeatman #harperperennial #goodreads #getlitsy #tea_sipping_bookworm #thestorygraph #fable #bookqueen #bookstagram
I so very rarely rate books, let alone review them, but Bookworm had me feeling some kind of way, and that was aghast at how much I disliked it. I soldiered on and finished, hoping for some kind of redemption, but it didn't come. The characters were all extremely unlikeable. If there was supposed to be humor in the "dark humor" of this book, I didn't find it. As a recently divorced woman, I had thought I would find something to relate to, but again, no such luck. I consider myself to be a bookworm and I love adding to my library, but this book is going to be going in the donation pile.
While this was written very well (super descriptive), after 14 chapters I felt like i was still waiting for the story to start
