The story was interesting enough to keep listening but I was left with unanswered questions at the end. I wanted more explanation of what/who the miniaturist was. I kept waiting for a confirmation that this is a story with magical realism but I didn't get it.

I can't imagine the characters would continue to be allowed to live in Amsterdam considering the turn of events towards the end of the story
(the parentage of the baby for one. Not to mention the scandal involving Johannes Brandt. I feel like the authorities would question Petronella Brandt about it.)

This was not worth the hype, and also was a terrible recommendation for spring reading. The prose is often clunky, many of the characters' actions are incomprehensible, and the plot is not very interesting as a whole. I finished the story wondering what the point was.

I usually despise reading thriller type stories but this one kept me reading purely because of the reliability of the characters and the bizarre events that slowly unfolded.

Mainie is dumb as a sack of rocks with no backbone so the plot could happen.

Boring. Nothing was happening and the characters were boring and unlikable.

I think I went into this book with e wrong expectations. Someone had told me to read it if I'd liked the Night Circus. It was nothing like it. Apart from there being a small mystery of the miniaturist it was a family saga. It was well written, had good characters and an exciting story but I just didn't enjoy it. So it probably doesn't deserve three stars as it is a good book, just not for me.
