I really liked The Miniaturist at the beginning, but then it became quite dark. It also seemed to lose track of where it was going, and the ending felt unresolved.

This book was fascinating, it covers a range of themes and ideas. The characters were appealing and interesting although I would of liked more character development. It has been left with room for more, which I always like about a book. It leaves you with the possibility of hope. A good read, I will definitely recommend it.

A thoroughly brilliant book, one of the best I've read in a long while - I loved the characters, the themes, the setting, the twists and turns of the plot, and the writing was just superb.

Wow! this book drew me in to the claustrophobic world of Amsterdam in 1868. In spite of gossip and neighbors reporting on neighbors, secrets abound! A naive 18 year old comes to Amsterdam to wed a wealthy merchant, but her life is not at all what she imagined! The book was well written enough that I became intensely interested in the characters and what would happen next!
