The vibe of this book reminds me of the painting ‘Arnolfini Portrait’ by Jan van Eyck. It was an okay read for me, some parts I did enjoy ( the chapters were not lengthy so that helped) while at times I find myself reading it quickly so I can get to the end.

Me ha gustado mucho la primera mitad del libro, es una lectura muy atmosférica y la autora consigue que te sumerjas en el Amsterdam del siglo XVII. Pero el final me ha decepcionado bastante, siento que ha dejado muchos misterios abiertos y que la miniaturista como personaje no tenía sentido. Al final, simplemente es observadora? Qué pretendia con las figuras?Y qué pasa con Agnes? el final me ha dejado mal sabor de boca, por lo demas, la estilo y el principio me ha gustado mucho. Petronella me ha parecido demasiado joven para su modo de pensar, pero por lo demás los personajes me han gustado
Overall I liked this book! 1600s Amsterdam was an interesting scene, I haven’t read a book like that before so that was nice! There were a couple plot twists which I did not see coming which was also nice.
The pace was of a slower kind, not too slow and I still wanted to pick up the book, but slower. I wished there would have been a bigger/more dramatic ending with the miniaturist, felt like they just disappeared and there wasn't a proper ending between them and Nella.
It was a good book, but didn't quite reach the "a great book" status for me. I'm still interested to read the sequel though!

I actually really enjoyed this book, from the historical setting to the mystery of the miniature figures that end up representing poor Nella’s life.
It would be enough to scare anyone, especially when you’re in an arranged marriage in a place you don’t know, in a house you don’t know, surrounded by strangers.
This book was hyped up when it was first published and I can see why, I was able to fly through this book as I wanted to keep reading.
There are plenty of plot twists to add scandal to the story. I really didn’t see them coming, but the one that happened with Marin, the sister, was heartbreaking. For a women so sharp, it was surprising to see her soften.
The scandal surrounding Johannes, Nella’s husband, was a shock. I didn’t see it coming and I felt so sorry for Nella when the truth case out.
It’s a really well thought out story, it fits the time period, and I really enjoyed reading it and following the characters as their lives unfolded.
