Every chapter something unexpected happened! The story line is captivating, while dealing with different subjects that were important in the seventeenth century and even nowadays! Overall well written, I highly recommend it!

An odd but engaging read that flew by. Suffered a bit from almost getting characters fully developed but then not quite achieving what was needed to bond with them. Felt a bit stilted at times, but was a good read and gets a triple AAA plus for creativity and setting

Was eerder 3,5/5. Ik heb er enorm van genoten, en het was goed. Af en toe had ik wel het gevoel dat er nog iets ontbrak. Goed, maar niet overweldigend of een indruk nalatend. De personages waren wel geweldig uitgewerkt. Je bouwt al snel een band op. Ik zou het sowieso nog eens opnieuw lezen, maar niet rap. Genietend was het wel!
3.5 stars. This was a pretty good book. I'm not sure if I recommend it with much enthusiasm, but it was interesting and I enjoyed reading it. I had been hoping for more about the miniaturist and the mystical elements suggested on the back cover. Instead, the story turned out to be more about the protagonist Nella and the secrets of the people in her new life. Indeed, there were a great many plot twists which I didn't see coming, so I give the author credit for that. The book is written in present tense, which sometimes bothered me (just a personal style preference, it was otherwise well-written). Overall, I thought it was worth reading.
This was such an amazing book, I never wanted to put it down. With a lot of books you have an idea of what is going to happen but with this it was constantly surprising you. The only reason I gave it 4 start instead of 5 is because it would have been good to know more about the miniaturist, to see how she knew all the things she did, but I guess the mystery is what made the book the way it is.
This is the first historical fiction book that I have read so I was nervous when starting it as I really wanted to like it. It definitely didn't disappoint and was much better than I expected (which was a lot)!
I would definitely recommend reading this!
