This book is fantastic, but had I known it would end on a cliffhanger, and be a four book series before I get my HEA?!!!…I may have reconsidered. The art of the stand-alone is lost these days. Kinda tired of cliffhangers and having to buy multiple books.

What a weirdly written book. I had this on my TBR for a while now, and when it went on sale on Amazon, I decided to finally buy it and read it right away.

Maybe I had this book overhyped in my mind since its premise reminded me so much of one of my all-time favorite books. I love the dynamic of Grumpy MMC x Sunshine FMC! Nova sounded like a really sweet character that I was gonna love! But by the end of this book, (which is a cliffhanger fyi) I really didn't vibe with her or any other character.

I could go on and on about what I didn't like. Nova's sister being a major one. But my biggest gripe is that the author made a lot of weird choices writing this book. She included details or events that didn't make sense or felt needed. For example, Nova's bracelet going missing at the beginning or how her and her sister felt at odds but were suddenly good at the end of the book. I thought that bracelet was gonna be important in some way. I also thought Nova and Mari's relationship was gonna be a major plotline with a satisfying conclusion. Guess I was wrong.🤷‍♀️

Idk, I just feel really dissatisfied with everything about 𝘎𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳. I won't be reading the next books in the series, but this experience hasn't turned me off from the author! I'm still curious about her other works.🐥💕

While the book wasn’t my favourite, I am keen to see how Nova and Clay progress in the next two as I am sucked into their story now.

Nova and Clay’s “meet cute” really sets the tone for the story and their relationship. It’s a bit messy, endearing and emotional right from the start. It gives a good peek at the characters true nature and it made me really like them both.
It’s a grumpy/sunshine romance with a dash of sports romance and celebrity. I love all of these tropes and they worked really well in this story for me.
Both characters are at turning points in their personal and professional lives. They are trying to move forward but, past feelings are lingering and holding them back in a sense.
I really love their interactions, I love the tension of their attraction. It’s a very delicious slow burn.
Both characters are immensely likable to me, I love the way they “click” and see each other in a deeper way than other people do. They both provide another perspective of things that the other is struggling with. It’s a great aspect of their relationship.
They’re both kind and generous in different ways. She is a bit of a free spirit. He’s focused on his career and doesn’t allow for much else, Nova becomes the exception to that.
Nova didn’t know who Clay was when they met and she isn’t impressed by his celebrity status, this is key to him letting her into his life.
I was engaged in the story and rooting for them personally and as a couple.
The cliffhanger caught me off guard, I didn’t know that this is a planned trilogy, luckily they are releasing about a month apart so the wait isn’t long.
I’m looking forward to more of this couple and their story. I really like them and I am excited to see where their journey takes them.

This year I'm on the hunt of new to me authors. The blurb intrigued me, while seeing this book being promoted of my facebook book friends. And I haven't read a basketball romance in a while. And tbh with you, I wished I had payed closer attention. Because until the end of Game Changer, I wasn't aware of the fact that Nova and Clay's story goes over three books, with the other two being published end of June and end of August 2023. And I HATE waiting. :-D
Game Changer doesn't end with a traditional cliffy but yet there is still one that left me hanging and sad that I can't continue right away. If I'd known that before starting this book, I would have waited until all three books are published. :-)

Now, let's talk about the book. Even though the blurb is intriguing, I went in without any expectations. And it took me only very few pages to be sucked into the story. I really like Nova and Clay as induvial and also when they are together. I love how Clay is there for Nova even though is a grump through and through. But he just can't help himself with Nova. I enjoyed their interactions and banter and I think Game Changer is a great start for what's about to come.

Oh, and the side characters! I wish I'd seen more of them. And I hope I get to read Miles and Brook's story as well as Jay and Chloe's! Please tell me they'll get their own books!?

This book was definitely one that was hard to put down. I read long past midnight because I kept saying myself "just one more chapter. you'll stop after the next one", but I couldn't. And then I got hit by this cliffy. *sigh*

The thing that keeps me from giving more than 4 stars is that I think the complex relationship between Nova and her sister Mari could have been explored a little deeper. And what happened to their parents. I get the feeling that these are important points that shaped Nova into the person she is. I also don't get in the end why Harlan (Mari's husband) did what he did and why he thought it was his business to do so. I can't quite get a grip on him and it feels weird. Hopefully this will kind of clear up in the next books.

Wow!

Clay and Nova might just be my favourite couple yet! I can’t tell you how many times Clay set off butterflies in my stomach, and the kinship I feel with Nova is crazy.
