It's a cute adult romance about seeing true beauty - not just the physical kind. There are LOADS of sexual tensions and a few steamy sex scenes.
It was a quick, cute and easy read!

I have mixed feelings about this book.
I love love Avery Flynn, but I was disappointed in the fact that the heroine's looks played such a big role in the story. Yeah, we get it she's not a 10, BUT to have her looks constantly mentioned even by the heroine herself was depressing. The fact that she was also being bulled/ pranked by GROWN men because of it just pissed me off. She was strong and took it all like a champ, but she shouldn't have had to!

I am officially declaring a book slump.
This book was fine, but I found there were more times where I was annoyed than times where I was happy. The female lead is supposed to be a “butterface” (hate that word) but the way she’s talked about and demonized based on her face, you’d think she was the personification of fear. At one point, the male lead is gifted a paper bag with holes cut out to make it easier to be with her...Really disturbing to read at times.

OK. So I am only going to give this a 3. I read the entire series (3 Books Butterface, Muffin Top and Tomboy). They are all exactly alike. EVERYTHING IS THE SAME. The reason I gave it a 3 was it was something different then what I usually read... So it might just be me. I do not think so, but I will just say its me.
If you want to get into something different, if you need to get away, if you need guy likes girl, she has "something wrong with her" and they like each other, boy does something dumb, they get together... This book is for you.

The premise here is that poor Lucy is ugly so I was expecting a plain Jane wallflower type to become kind of a bombshell once you get to know her, but this isn’t that story. These aren’t scientific measurements but I estimate that 80% of this book is Lucy telling us that she has an ugly face and everyone is mean to her because of it, so right from the start, I don’t like the world that’s been built here. Sure, people are jerks and the world can be a cruel place, but adults going out of their way to discuss her ugliness in front of her and concoct pranks to humiliate her is too cliché to take seriously.
I assumed this was satirical and expected a super funny book where the author went to this extreme to remind us that we’re all beautiful in our own way, but nope. The moral of the story is Lucy’s ugly but she’s okay with it. Nobody ever even attempts to make this woman feel better about herself, not even the man who professes to love her. I wanted to like these characters but there wasn’t enough to them to draw me in. Lucy’s entire identity is being ugly and okay with it. There was nothing else to her. Ford is a stereotypical by-the-book cop who speaks and acts more like a robot than a human.
Every character in the story is a stereotype or caricature from her shady, wanna-be Goodfellas brothers to the cops who drink too much to the rivalry between the police officer and the firefighters. This was actually painful to read. Lucy’s overprotective brothers appointing themselves protector of her virtue was the cliché which broke the camel’s back. This is the first in a series and the next one stars a woman who is comfortable in her plus-size body and I can only imagine it reaches cringe-level infinity the same as this one.

2.5-3
It had good parts but honestly it was so annoying how mean everyone was to her just because she’s not conventionally attractive

It was a sweet albeit cheesy read. I liked the overall story and know that her looks was a major part of the plot (it’s literally in the title), but the constant descriptions of how unattractive the female main character is wore me out. I felt like every page someone was tearing her down because of how her nose or eyes looked, whether it was her inner thoughts or someone else’s harsh words.
I get the premise of the book is about loving someone for who they are not how they look, but I feel like that could have been portrayed without tearing the main character apart every other paragraph.

Absolutely amazing! I always enjoy Avery’s books. Seems like I’m adding another one of her series to my favorites.
The amount of ugly duckling trope is a bit insane. I couldn’t stand it—and it made me take a very long time to finish it (for my standard).
Picked this one up after accidentally reading book two in the series. I will say that I think it makes a little more sense to read them in order, but not necessary. Just like the second book in this series we follow a woman who is not classically beautiful and a hot Hartigan brother. I will say that I liked that aspect of this book, but there were times it felt over dramatic. All I could think was there is no way everyone is this over the top about this girls nose! I liked both MC, Gina was relatable to me as a baby sister to two big brothers. I thought that Frankie was going to be my favorite Hartigan brother of the series, but turns out that it is Ford. He is such a sweet, straight laced guy and I loved it. This book like all of the other books that I have read by this author is full of humor and heat, so much instalove, a little dramatic but so much fun!
