I listened to the audiobook via Audible.

I don't have a lot to say about this book. I thought it was fun and enjoyed it.

Ooof. Why did this hurt? This was a really cute short read for me, but like... Gina talking about HS dating and being made fun of maybe hit too close to home. Is it a fun silly romcom absolutely!

It was good but very much romance eye candy. Just a tad too sweet for me.

I might be in the minority, but honestly I just didn’t care about this book. I didn’t connect to either of the characters and the author did more telling than showing of their relationship. I read this book because I really wanted to read Muffin Top so I will give this author another try. This book was also predictable, which would have been fine if the characters had better chemistry or I could have connected to either of them. I did like the premise of this book, but the execution of the story fell flat to me.

From the dedication to the ending, this is a fantastic must read by Avery Flynn!

Butterface is the story of Gina and Ford.  Ford who we meet briefly in The Charmer is the main hero of this story.

Gina, oh this girl is what every girl feels like at one time or another.  She is the perfect heroine in this story.  She is trying hard to overcome the stigma of not being "perfect".  Such a relative term and it actually describes her perfectly! She is strong, she is independent but she also carries the scars of her past with vulnerability.

Ford feels like he is the odd man out in his family. He doesn't quite fit.  He meets Gina and he "sees" her! I was taken by the way that he couldn't seem to quite understand what Gina was going through.  And when he finally realizes the judgemental, stereotypes, he knows he has to make Gina understand what she means to him.  (After some pretty epic screw-ups on his part)

Ford & Gina's chemistry is hella hot and it really pushes Gina out of her comfort zone, which was beautiful to read! Gina coming into her own and loving herself fully!

I really enjoy Avery's stories!  They are sweet, they are witty and they are oh so swoony! I cannot wait to read what comes next from her!

4-ish? Loved some aspects, not others.

I was disappointed in this one. We’ve all heard the expression “They’re a butter face...she’s got a hot body but her face...” So going in, I knew that Gina had some insecurities and past full of teasing for being the ugly duckling. But what surprised me was that it stuck. She was constantly referred to as ugly. By herself and other characters. I get it she had big eyes and a big nose but for crying out loud! We didn’t need to be told she was ugly every couple of pages. And of course Ford is hot.

3 Stars - I might recommend if you enjoy contemporary romantic comedies.

Gina is not pretty. She knows this, she's used to it, she owns it. So how does she find herself lip locked with a hot policeman at a wedding? Drunk people. Through a chain of events she finds herself lying to her (mobster) brothers saying that she is dating Ford (aforementioned hot policeman). When she finds a body in her attic, he insists on staying with her both for protection and to keep up the charade. Can someone as attractive as Ford really like someone like Gina? Can a policeman love an ugly girl with a family who has mob ties?

The beginning of this book was so funny. It was really awkward, really hilarious, and there was a lot of tension. I was excited to see the book play out... but I think that cop/fireman books just are not my thing. I felt a little bit like I was hanging out in a Massachusetts cop bar, lol. Which is maybe what it was meant to be like, but that isn't my jam... and I didn't find that super attractive in our hero. Personal preference I think. Anyhow, I felt like there was a lot going on in this one. Not only did we have fake dating, the brothers involved in questionable mob activities, and the body... we also had the renovations piece of the plot. It was just a little bit all over the place. If cops are your thing, or if you like sort of kooky plots, this might be for you. I thought it was cute enough all things considered and I like the idea of the plot and that everyone is not super model-esque. It did have some steamy scenes, that I was totally here for. Overall not my favorite, but cute. :)

Right After Reading:

Very quick read. Cute overall.

Meh. It had potential, but as many other reviewers have pointed out, it’s hard to like a lead character who is constantly focused on how unlikable she is because of her looks. We get it. You had a shitty experience in high school. It’s scarring. We don’t need to be reminded every other page how big her nose is and how good looking Ford is. Could have been a decent story if it wasn’t so heavy handed on that piece of it. Oh - and do I believe Gina could even fall in love? No. Because in the immortal words of RuPaul, “if you can’t love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love somebody else?” Can I get an amen?
