Sunshine/grumpy opposites attract historical.

Icy cold, duty-bound Duke, Wulf meets clumsy, lively and pretty widow, Christine at a mutual acquaintance's country house party. Christine is vivacious and kind and unwittingly draws Wulf's attentions, much to his displeasure. It was fun to watch the two interact and to see Wulf puzzled by why this gentleman's daughter of low social standing, who made so many social faux pas, drew him in and attracted him so well.

For her part, Christine thinks Wulf is physically attractive, but believes he is a proud, unfeeling, heartless person who is unlikely to make her or anyone else happy. Regardless, the two are drawn to one another like magnets from the very beginning. After a heated kiss, Wulf puts his foot in his mouth when he offers Christine carte blanche. She is (rightly) deeply offended and stalks off. Wulf, realising his mistake, tries to rectify the situation, but it backfires.

After the house party, neither can forget what happened. When Wulf tries to make a decent proposal, Christine justifiably throws it back in his face. Basically saying she wouldn't marry him if he was the last man on earth because he isn't the kind of man she needs or wants. The rest of the book is spent as Wulf decides Christine is definitely who he wants, despite her quirks and his trying as best he can to prove to her she was wrong about him.

It was a sweet homage to Pride and Prejudice, which I didn't really pick up on it until the proposal scene when Wulf basically tells Christine that despite all her flaws, he'll still marry her... silly man!

This book contains descriptive love scenes.

RE-READ 2024: starting the series from book 1 this time made book 6 all the more emotional. So good to see Wulf get his HEA.❤️

I did not at all know what to expect of Wulf's book because he was always so aloof. Throughout the series we have seen some hints of vulnerability and love for his siblings and in this book he finally gets to fall in love. He is paired with Christine who is delightfully chaotic and does not care about etiquette and who is definitely no flirt (!!) I loved them together and I loved getting to see the Bedwyns together as a family and enjoying each other's company. This book is set 2 years after the last book, so there's quite a few children already and tbh I'm still confused about who's who's child. But yaay great finale of this series.

so basically this uppity bitch named Wulfric (yes-- you read that right) gets caught in this party where the FMC Christine (normal name!) is also attending. Christine is a widow of two years, has been ostracized for her Extroverted realness, and is ready to never ever see Wulfric again. Wulfric is the human embodiment of a cold stone wall while Christine (as described mannnnyyy times) is a ray of sunlight. It's grumpy/sunshine with slowburn* (they have sex before the 30 mark or something but it's a one night stand thing w no passion).

I found Christine's antics very entertaining, and Wulfric's reaction to her was very typical of a classist man. To be honest if we never got the insight into his thinking I would've been sooooooo confused at his behavior. The payoff when he finally laughs was VERY satisfying--  also this man wants that cookie BAAAAAD. He would egg her on cause he liked when she made fun of him and liked to see her laugh... and the situations he would put himself in just to help her out--- "ambivalent" I'm Sure!!!!!

I'm always SUPER glad when the heroine has her frontal lobe developed in these books cause apparently one of the other books in the Bedwyn Saga the FMC was 18 and by the time this book happens it has been 2 years and she already has two kids-- GAG ME, I'm sure!!! That's a fucking horror story!!! Luckily Christine is like 29 and has been previously married so she passes my test. Rip to the other girl though...

This book was a sweet Pride and Prejudice (ish) retelling and was a solid read. On the emotional end, this book was a satisfying slow burn. Idk if I would reread it, but it was pretty solid.

Wulfric Bedwyn, Duke of Bewcastle does not like frivolities, so he regrets agreeing to attend a house party where most of the attendees are younger members of the ton. Christine Derrick, an impoverished gentile widow in her late 20s, is his complete opposite, seeking out wonder and joy in life, and constantly getting into scrapes. Christine wonders how she can be so attracted to someone she dislikes so much, and yet they keep finding reasons to be in each other's company.

I admit that I was a little disappointed in this one. It's still an excellent book, but some of the magic from earlier in the series was missing, especially since I was so excited about Wulfric's story. What I did love most about it though, was that Wulfric and Christine don't *change* for one another. Instead, their perspectives change and they learn to love each other for who they each are and allow their circumstances to shift.

Pride and Prejudice.
