W sumie recenzent ze mnie żaden, po prostu od kiedy kupiłem Kindle, zacząłem dużo więcej czytać i powinienem zapisywać sobie przy tytułach takie adnotacje przypominające mi, co mi się w nich podobało. No więc w “A Visit from the Goon Squad” bardzo podobała mi się konstrukcja powieści jako ciągu rozdziałów-oddzielnych opowiadań, rozrzuconych w chronologii i opowiadających o różnych osobach. Widziałem to ostatnio w “Olive Kitteridge”, tyle że tam wszyscy bohaterowie byli mieszkańcami jednego miasteczka żyjącymi w jednym okresie, zaś u Egan to wszystko jest rozciągnięte - nastolatek z jednego rozdziału staje się ojcem narratorki innego, główny bohater opowieści miga nam gdzieś jako czyjś znajomy. Trzeba uważać, bo podobnie dzieje się z fabułą - niedopowiedziana historia znajduje swój epilog w innej części powieści. Do tego Jennifer Egan bawi się formą: jeden rozdział opowiedziany jest z punktu widzenia osoby zaburzonej psychicznie, w innym cała narracja zawarta jest w PowerPointowej prezentacji. Jacyś ludzie burzą się, że coś takiego dostało Pulitzera. No nie wiem.

I hated this book. Then, I really liked this book. Then, I kept thinking about this book. I had no clue how to rate it. I think the author is brilliant---I love what she was able to do with plot and structure, but it still left me feeling like it was missing something--warmth, I think.

I appreciated this book more after I was done. Once I let go of the fact that we're not going to find out what happens in Sasha's life I was able to enjoy the book more.
This is not about the plot, it's about the experiences of each character. Once I stopped trying to place every detail I enjoyed it more. I'm glad I kept going.

took a little while to get into it but soon I was enrapt. everything was connected just enough without falling into artifice. beautiful nuanced stories of messy, messy people
