Dear Zoe
It was an easy read but heartbreaking. It was hard to read about her sisters death and how hard it was for the family to grieve.

I enjoyed this book I feel like if it had been longer I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much but I enjoyed the sweet & short book it was like a 3.7 I think...I wouldn't read it again but if I had to go back and decide whether or not to read it I would read it :)

I was thinking at first that this was a young adult book, but there are very liberal ideas on major adult subjects like drugs, sex, suicide, trauma, grief, religion, etc. This 15 year old girl loses her sister to a hit and run driver on 9/11, and she tried to come to terms with the loss while figuring out who she is.
Based in Pittsburgh, and references the city a lot, especially Kennywood!

It's pretty good, moving & realistic grief. An intriguing plot; how to deal with personal grief while mass grieving is occuring.
Unfortunately, it doesn't age well re: overtly sexualitizing the protagonist and random secondary characters. A level of sex makes sense, but its strange knowing it all comes from the POV of an adult male writer trying to capture the pre-teen female experience

I've met Phillip Beard and enjoy him as much as his books. This was a wonderful story about a family who suffers a loss on September 11th, but not in the actual attacks. It's often hard to remember anything but what happened on that day, but this book brings to light the realities that life still was happening, even during that awful tragedy. Beautifully written - a real tug-at-your-heart story.
