Lark being a DIY queen and the interactions that occur around those projects is just amazing

I WANT ETHEL TO POSION ME WITH HER MUFFINS SO I CAN THANK HER BECAUSE SHE IS SO FUCKING AWESOME

Okay but itโ€™s soooo sweet and cute. Nothing I ever thought I would say about this book (or B&B) for that matter but it definitely is.

*SPOILER*
Also, hereโ€™s the big question that is now a hot topic at work: Does a human body drowned and encased in epoxy resin to make a coffee table preserve a body or does said body still decay?

Leather & Lark was such a fun book!

I feel a little weird describing a dark romcom about serial killers as โ€œfun,โ€ but thatโ€™s exactly what it was. I never wanted to put it down, and even when it got dark and twisted I knew there would be humor coming my way soon!

Lachlan and Lark are so cute together, and I completely believe why they hate each other so much at the beginning of the book. The forgiveness, and eventual โ€œI love you,โ€ feel earned.

Read this book if you love

Make sure you read the content warnings listed at the beginning of the book - they are extensive.

Iโ€™m looking forward to Fionn and Roseโ€™s book! 4.5 stars

Okay, so I will start by saying I had such high expectations for this book. โ€œButcher and Blackbirdโ€ is one of my favorite reads of the year, and it was a perfect 5/5 star. I know many people were disappointed by this sequel, and I was too, but I still enjoyed it! It wasn't as perfect as the first book in the series, but I still fell in love with Lark and Lachlan. My only negative was that it felt like we forgot that someone was hunting them for half of the book. I love that we had such a beautiful love story, but it seemed that unlike โ€œButcher and Blackbird,โ€ we didn't have an even love story and a mystery/murder plot. However, the spice in โ€œLeather and Larkโ€ was superior, I will say.

I listened to this on Audible and the dual narration was great. I didn't love the characters and writing though.

I must begin with saying that I thoroughly enjoyed the narration of this! These two did an amazing job.

The book itself is a weird mix of funny banter with lots of graphic murders and some pretty spicy scenes ๐Ÿ˜… There were some killing/murder scenes I skipped through because of how graphic the depiction is, but kudos to the author for finding a great balance with adding in a great mix of many romance tropes. Certainly not something to go into reading without understanding all the triggers in this one. But overall I quite enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Which btw, these are stand alone stories and having started the series with the second book I don't feel like I missed a lot from what happened in the first book. There's just enough information in this one to make it feel like you don't have to read the first book to understand what is happening.

What happened? I devoured the first book Butcher and Blackbird in 12 hours. In this, I was daunted by the long chapters, took me eight days and I fell asleep reading it. I only laughed twice and I was bored. This felt like a FanFic version of Butcher and Blackbird if written by a fan to put it lightly.

Warning: Potential Spoilers / Brief Mentions
I didnโ€™t feel anything for the characters. Lark was very up and down and the whole time Lachlan was after forgiveness from Lark. For what throwing her in the trunk of the car at the start of the book or for her being put in the marriage of convenience position? She is a serial killer. She is tougher than that. Yes, she may have fear of confined spaces and trauma from her past but I donโ€™t understand why he needed the forgiveness which lasted until around the 70% mark. Why were there two weddings in a row?! Donโ€™t get me wrong I loved seeing Sloan and Rowan's wedding but I didnโ€™t expect the next chapter to be Lark and Lachlan. I get why they had to, it just felt odd. When Lachlan found out about her being a serial killer he was shocked. I donโ€™t understand why it was a big deal as he is a contractor killer anyway. Letโ€™s talk about the โ€œSleep Retreatโ€ Apparently Lark doesnโ€™t sleep well at all and I donโ€™t recall it being brought up before this chapter. But Lachlan took her there and told her to spend the weekend, itโ€™s okay to shut off and get some rest. Tell me why she is going when someone close to her is in hospital and a lot is going on. But to top it off, later that night Lachlan snuck her out and let her end someone who haunted her past?!? What was the point of this chapter why send her, if you were sneaking her out? The presents they gave each other. I was laughing at how ridiculous Lachlanโ€™s was. Like come on it was so whack and the circumstances made no sense. Why that particular moment to get him to turn it on? Wild. I think I would have liked to see this played out very differently. Donโ€™t even get me started on the amount of time โ€œFeckinโ€ or โ€œChrist Jesusโ€ was said it was frustrating. Conclusion I wasnโ€™t fussed about the storyline plot or characters. In all honesty, I would have DNFโ€™d if I read the physical or E-Book version by itself. The only thing that kept me going was the audiobook narration that kept pushing me through.
Letโ€™s hope the third book is better.
