This review will 100% have spoilers for both Passenger and Wayfarer. If you have not read this series than I urge you to go and pick it up and rise it to the top of your TBR pile.
I finished this book this morning, so I am writing this review whilst the events of this amazing novel are still fresh in my mind. This of course was the follow up to the fantastically written Passenger, which introduced us to Etta, a scrappy and strong lead. At the end of the first book Etta is orphaned by the time line and Nicholas is setting out to find her, so this is what most of Wayfarer was about.

This was a slower read it didn't grip me as much, though maybe that is because I was reading it versus an audio book like I did with the first one. It was a nice read, engaging story, but it got to be a little hard to follow the "timeline" at times and who was where when and with whom. But overall, a nice read.
This book dragged a bit but still a great read.

Unfortunately I didn't love this one as much as Passenger. Mainly because I was upset about the separation of two of the characters for the majority of the book. It had a really strong ending though (it had me happy teary eyed😢) and the writing and world was just as wonderful as the previous book. I would highly recommend this series to anyone looking for an epic time travel adventure.
I enjoyed this sequel more than Passenger. I felt like we traveled to way more interesting places and there was so much added to the plot. The first book took a lot to get into because readers have to learn the world. This book was already set up, and the plots added were incredible. I do have to say that it was pretty predictable but I loved it anyway. I loved the new characters introduced and how we built minor characters from the last book into important supporting characters. Very nice sequel!
2.5 stars.
I'm sad that I couldn't like this book enough. I really wish that I did. Maybe it was because I read the first book a year ago and can barely remember the plot and characters. Another factor to why this book was disagreeable to me was I no longer liked the main characters and overall it was a terribly slow paced book.
What I did like about Wayfarer was Sophia and Julian. I like that we get more of a backstory for Sophia. It gives an explanation for her behaviour in the first book. I wish that that was the same with Julian. I would have appreciated some backstory for Julian. Not much was said about his past and no reasons were given for the horrible way he treated Nic as said in the first book.
Tbh, I didn't pay attention throughout this book. It started out slow paced and instead of picking up speed it just stayed that way.

I liked how this all wrapped up in the end, but it was just so... boring. The middle bit dragged way to much for my taste. I loved the atmosphere in these books, and i love both Etta and Nicholas, but this book definitely did not need to be 500 pages. Also, my favorite part of this duology is Etta and Nicholas's relationship, which is practically nonexistent in this book:/. Anyways, I would still recommend the Passenger duology to anyone interested, but this was definitely a disappointment, aside from the very end.
I liked the ending but the whole book was kind of average. I thought it was too long. I found myself pretty bored and at not point every time I thought about picking it up and finishing it I didn't want to so I read 4 other books between starting this one and finishing it, haha. I liked the section where Etta was with the Hemlocks. I love her dad. And Sophia was hands down the best part of this book. I liked her romance with Li Min too.
Nicholas is my favorite perspective. I'm kind of eh on Etta. The last scene where Etta was playing and her family showed up gave me chills though. But WHAT THE HELL SHE DIDN'T EVEN SAY HI TO HER FAMILY SHE JUST LEFT WITH NICK SERIOUSLY WHAT. Like oh my god girl, you think your parents are either dead or lost to you forever, you see them in the crowd and cry of happiness and then Nick is like lets go on a time adventure again and you leave without even speaking to your parents. That ruined everything for me, like it makes absolutely no sense.
So yeah, this was just an okay book. I think it could have been shorter and that's why it fell flat for me. There was too much time to be disinterested. And also I thought the alchemist plot was so weird. That took this into fantasy territory that didn't make sense with the rest of the book to me. But oh well. I'm finished with it now so yeah.

A great conclusion to the series. I'm always so happy for duologies. I love it when they don't stretch out the story unnecessarily. The only critique I have is that Etta is very quiet and ladylike for a modern teen girl. I can understand that some people are like that, but most people I know would have freaked out a little more. I'm guessing the author was going for a 'clean' YA book. Because if I woke up on a ship in 1776 there would have been a lot more cursing, even when I was 17. But Etta is still a strong character and the book was very well written. Overall, and interesting take on time travel.
