I had great expectations for this book based on how much I loved Shadow of the Wind…. But I was a little disappointed. The writing style has the same moody, dark aesthetic, with a lot of romanticism and fairytale vibes. There were quiet a few intriguing discussions about religion and human nature - but ultimately the plot was confusing and unclear to the very end. Perhaps I have missed something I was supposed to pick up on? But there are several plot points that remain a big question mark, which is ultimately unsatisfying. I’ll keep reading everything this author writes but this wasn’t his best.

This book was definitely worth the read.
I don’t think it was as amazing as The Shadow of the Wind, it’s “prequel” (the events of this book happen before those of Shadow), as often happens with book series, but I definitely enjoyed it.
The setting and characters are fascinating and I was hooked from the start. I have to say the second half of the book wasn’t as good as the first, perhaps it felt like it was dragging on just a little. However, I was satisfied with the ending and hope my questions will be answered in the following two books.

Prequel to Shadow of the Wind, and slightly less satisfying. Beautiful prose.

I loved The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, and after having read that novel, I was told by another book blogger, Mel @ Book Musings, that the book was actually part of a trilogy.

Then I was given the opportunity to review the third book in the series by TLC Book Tours (coming tomorrow), which basically meant I needed to suck it up and get the second book in the series read ASAP!

The Angel’s Game by Carlos Ruiz Zafon is the second book in The Cemetery of Forgotten Books trilogy, although it actually is a prequel.

Remember when I talked about The Cemetery of Forgotten Books? Basically it’s heaven on Earth for book lovers: a secret labyrinth of a place where books go so that they will never be forgotten. On your first trip, you get to chose your own book (or does the book choose you?) that you must protect.

I think this is the first series I've read where the books aren't sequential but are intertwined. I really like how in these books locations feel like characters. I'm not familiar with Spain at all so as I was reading I was googling locations and looking up pictures. I feel like sempere and sons book shop was a safe haven and I wish I could visit a book shop like that. I had a hard time following some of the story and I would've liked to better understand the boss. All in all I really liked this book even if suspense stresses me out.
