Im enjoying this series a lot more than I had thought I would. Some plot points are a little predictable, but sometimes that makes fantasy fun. Somehow I need everybody to have a happy ending- even the evil queen lesbians actually
Masterful
“A heart was a dangerous weapon, after all.”
First, phenomenal. Truly this is epic world-building to the next level. My heart has been on an emotional rollercoaster since I started, and frankly I’m not sure when it’s going to stop. Probably not until I can devour the third book, and I need that chonky beauty—cause we know it’s going to be weighty like the final resolutions—in my hands now.
Second, I would give my all for Soren and Vanya. I am invested in all the characters, Caris especially tugs at my heart, which has cried, screamed, yelled, cheered, laughed, and swooned too many times to count; it still is, and will be for days. Have I shared how I need the next book? But there’s something…more about Vanya and Soren. They have a magic of their own and it thrills, comforts, and compels, all at the same. And the more we see of them, the more I want to never let them go.
Third, I despise, and I mean with every vein in my body, despise Eimarille and her Blade. I used to think I admired her, but now, oh now, I just want her gone. And that means everyone who sides with her. And I’m not talking about a peaceful, gentle slide into nothingness. No, the rage that burns in me for this villainy is hotter than starfire, but there’s no putting it out.
All I can say is that if the first book left you gasping and demanding for more, then, you need to read this now. And if The Emperor’s Bone Palace leaves you breathless with your heart pounding uncontrollably, your mind reeling from all the twists and turns, and your emotions twisted and pieced together like a clockwork heart, then know you’re not alone and we can band together until our hearts are whole with the final book.

What am I supposed to say about a book that is perfect?
Do you want to hear that I’ve read the series twice in a row?
Do you want to know that I’m crying and screaming and happy and so emotional that I want to bang my head against the wall because book three still feels so far away?
Do you want to hear that I want to punch the star gods left and right (with a frying pan)?
Do you want to hear that I’m obsessed with Soren and Vanya?
Do you want to know how scared I am of the next instalment?!
AAAAAAH.
*cries in despair*

AAAAAAH.
*weint vor Verzweiflung*

Overall Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Oh wow... once again I´m left speechless I don´t even know where to start. The build up was so intense I couldn´t stop reading this book and pacing and jumping and screaming from rage and once I finished, I wanted it to have at least 1000 pages more. It felt like I could read this forever even if it hurt and tore me from the inside. Even if I was so desperate for the main characters to be okay and so very scared for them. How everything is starting to fall into place, but nothing is for free in the Maricol and the sacrifices made for the greater good are unparalleled. I´m still vibrating from the force of this book and everything that happed my hands are shaking and a CANNOT wait for the final book of this series. Even if I´m already in agony, that once I finish the last one, that would be the end and I can already feel the book hangover…
Plot: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
If you thought the plot of The Prince's Poisoned Vow was elaborate, just wait until you read this one. I can´t comprehend the imagination of the author and what else might live in her head, but I know I want to live there too.
Characters: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
The determination of the main characters and their fierceness is admirable, and I hope everyone will get what they deserve at the end. And I mean EVERYONE and mostly the bad ones. At times I was so angry at them all I could do was scream and rage internally. The relationships progress, together with characters as there are shaped by life is amazingly done, and it´s incredibly real and believable how author written them and really thought of everything.
Angst: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
It hurt. It hurt, but it was so worth it. Even if we have some unresolved issues between the one main MM pair, I have faith in them and only them, because you should never have a faith in the Gods when Hailey creates them.
Tension: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
From page one to the very last one the tension just grew and grew, and I felt I might explode. I had to put down the book for a few seconds for several times just to breathe and take the plunge I knew would be intense. The fights, the betrayals, the hurt, the fear, the sacrifices… I loved it all.
Spice: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
We had some really interesting hot scenes here I re-read several times because they were so so good not to mention the last one that tore my heart out. I would say the spice is even spicier in this book than in the previous one.

4.5/5

The Emperor’s Bone palace is book 2 in the Infernal War Saga and it picks up right where book 1, The Prince’s Poisoned Vow, left off. Right from the beginning the pace was quick and it stayed that way through the entire book. Since book 1 laid the foundation of the world and gave us a background of the characters, book 2 was able to focus more on the present, which I really enjoyed.
What I Liked:
The relationships. Each one is distinct and unique in their own way. Honovi and Blaine are my favorite couple in this series, hands down. The devolution that Honovi has for Blaine, even after the events that transpire in this story, is heartwarming and it made me love reading his POV. Caris and Nathaniel have some struggles and I am interested to see how their relationship plays out. Of course Soren and Vanya are full of delicious tension and I really hope that they can resolve some things come the third book.
The plot. The plot in this book was fantastic. The pacing was on point, things I think I knew turned out to be wrong, and there were surprises around each corner that I didn't see coming. I feel like the plot flowed so well and it made me invested in wanting to know what was going to happen.
Some questionable things for me:
Eimarille. I am on the fence about her. I REALLY hope that we get a redemption arc but I don’t know at this point. Also, because she has few POVs, in both books, it’s hard for me to get a read on if she has redeemable qualities or not. But I give Turner props for writing a character like her.
Overall, this book exceeded my expectations. I enjoyed book 1 but loved book 2. The build up from book 1 was very much worth it for this book. I can’t wait to see where the story goes.

This is more like a 4.5 for me, but I ended up really enjoying it. I liked the first book a lot better than the Soulbound series, but I still couldn’t get fully into it because of the writing and the amount of POVs. There’s just so much going on, and the writing is often cluttered and mechanical in a way that doesn’t help - I think it was also tough to follow the first book because it took place over a number of years. I liked this one better because the timeline was simpler, and the plot was action-packed and kept me invested. I love all the queer characters, and the romances have me wanting to read more. The political betrayals and surprises in this book were entertaining all the way through to the end. I’m looking forward to the final book in the trilogy, and I think this is probably Hailey Turner’s best book yet, despite my issues with her writing style. It’s a really solid steampunk fantasy that I could see myself reading again.
