Wow! What a book! I haven't read anything like this probably since I read The Firm by John Grisham or Tell No One by Harlan Coben. This book was action-packed, and that's an understatement! It contained mystery, intrigue, organized crime, murder, dirty politics, mental illness, and family. It was about the strength of family, forgiveness, love, and redemption. I found the characters to be interesting and much more realistic and believable than I had anticipated. Sometimes plot heavy books often neglect character development, but not this one. I felt that the motives of each character were believable and that as a reader you could identify with their actions to some extent- even if you didn't necessarily agree, you understood. Excellent book!

Good read, strong characters Micheal and Abigale, although I did expect a surprise with Michael father, but there wasn't one

This book was recommended to me at book club and I’m so glad I gave it a go! Haven’t read anything by this author before, but I will definitely be keeping a look out for more.

What a roller coaster ride! Just when I thought I had it figured out, more was unraveled. Loved it!

Michael is trying to go on the straight and narrow. He’s found a woman he wants to settle down with, but there’s one problem; his past won’t let him go.
Now this is where it gets interesting. A shootout, an explosion, a threat to the only people he loves; Elena and his brother, Julian.
Bodies start showing up, and things don’t quite add up. It becomes a mission to get to the bottom of it all.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book and all the twists and turns. Loved how descriptive it was, and the way we’re kept guessing.

I have now read all of Hart's books, with the exception of The King of Lies, and this is my favorite. There are a lot of twists at the end.

Highly recommended!

hated this novel when I started it. I thought it was another B grade action violent flick with dim characters and exploding cars. But it quickly became impossible to walk away from. [return][return]John Hart is an expert at building suspense into a well crafted story. The main character is anything but stereotypical. He is a self acknowledged killer, a harden man who is also filled with regret and a desire to change his life. Circumstances and a commitment to family keep pulling him back down. He has a mystery to solve, which takes him deep into the Tennessee Hills and some of the most despicable people imaginable.[return][return]While the novel creeps into the fantastical, with like 90 million dollars just waiting to be taken by the right criminal, and the bombshell beauty with all the right moves, there still remains a compelling edge. The violence inflicted on a minor character is extradionary, almost a distraction. But I think that is what sets this story apart from just another predictable, boring action story. The writing is unexpectedly good.

I love John Hart's work, and I loved this book! Lyrical and eloquent, yet the story is brutal, and the body count high. A great story!
