I really loved this one! The timeline is all over the place - telling you just what you need to know when you need to know it. Louise (aka Mrs. Wilt) is a delight - a spunky older woman trying to make amends. Tanner (a 20 year old college student) moves in with her to help out after Louise comes home from hip surgery. Then one night they leave in a jaguar to get George in California.

Nothing is as it seems - Louise seems to know what's up, but she shares just enough information, never too much. I love how she mentored Tanner - really saw her when no one else in her life could.

Over the course of a road trip across the country, they learn more about each other - and themselves. It's a truly delightful read!!

My mother absolutely adored Colleen Oakley's "The Invisible Husband of Frick Island", so when this book showed up at our local bookstore, I knew I had to give it a try.
"The Mostly True Story of Tanner and Louise" was so much fun to read from start to finish. Tanner and Louise couldn't want to be living together less if they tried. (I don't know about that actually... Louise is a pretty stubborn woman when she sets her mind to something.) Even though they don't understand each other or their habits and routines when they first meet, that all changes when they have to go on the run from the law.
Even when I thought I knew where this book was headed, I truly had no idea even down to the final few pages. You never truly know anyone and until you try to put yourself in their shoes, you won't understand why they make the choices they make. But once you finally let go of what you think you know, you might enjoy the journey a little bit more and you might have more similarities than you could imagine.

I loved this book.   It’s a light-hearted, funny adventure that involves two unlikely characters evolving into best of friends.   I loved it.

(Audiobook) I *may* have rated this a little higher if I had read vs. listened to this. I’m sure I would’ve read Tanner as less of a snot and Louise as less harsh…I think those qualities were there, but perhaps not as extreme as the audiobook emphasized. Regardless, it was easy to listen to this mindlessly while doing other things. A classic tale of a young woman getting guidance from a tough old lady. Certainly a bit far-fetched in its plot of being on the run from a gangster from the 70s, but that was part of its entertainment value, of course.

3.5 stars. Fun audiobook about unlikely friendships. I got more into it as the story progressed. Early on, it was hard for me to get into Tanner’s character. But, enjoyable, feel good story, which is what I was seeking.

I almost always love a multigenerational buddy comedy, especially when there's a mystery involved. The pacing on this one was not my favorite. It was hard to stay engaged when the storylines changed so quickly, but I did certainly enjoy it.
