I love the illustrations! Ruby is adorable and the wolf is so fluffy! I particularly appreciate the birds that cameo in the forest on this adventure and the snail Ruby helps along the way. This is a fun story about the bravery and kindness of an imaginative little girl, and the writing flows well with beautifully descriptive words that aid the colorful artwork in pulling the readers into the adventure with her. The ending is a predictable moral, but it still felt satisfying to see play out because of how sweet it is.

Ruby enjoys playing the role of superhero, especially when she can don her red cape and boots. Her antics help keep her entertained, though even her mother sees the need for young Ruby to spend some time outside. Ruby is sent out to pick raspberries, an activity she enjoys, though it takes her into the dark forest. While there with her basket, Ruby finds a sinister wolf, forcing her to turn into her alter-ego, Super Red Riding Hood. After a little bantering, Red and the Wolf come to an agreement, finding that they have a lot more in common than they first knew. Neo liked this story, though was confused, as it strays from the traditional version he knows well. He asked if there were other ‘super hero’ stories based on the traditional fairy tales we have read, which left me to scramble and check the local library. Stay tuned for what I find!

I loved this book. It was not just Red Riding Hood, but it was more than just a girl at play. A mom wants her Super girl to go outside and play rather than stay cooped up in the house. Our Super girl is super brave and not only ventures into the dark forest, but also stands up to the wolf, and makes a new friend. Overall, a wonderful story with great illustrations.
