A big, sloppy cheeseburger of a book. A page-turner with lots to say, sometimes clunkily. Likeable characters, interesting premise. Would it have been scarier if it were tighter? Perhaps. Maximally scary isn't necessarily the goal though. This was pretty fun.

I was SO excited for this one, but I just don't think I vibe with Wendig's writing. This is the second book by him that I've read about a hundred pages of and I just couldn't get into. His premises are very interesting but execution just simply isn't good. I find that his story start very very fast, with hardly any build up to them, but then are extremely long books. His characters and plots are very underdeveloped, the dialogue is very stunted and unrealistic, and overall his writing just seems mediocre. Which really is a letdown because again this book and some of his others sound absolutely incredible, but the way he writes them is very subpar.

As much as I wanted to like this…I just don’t. Couldn’t finish it after making it halfway through the 500+ page book.
