The Railway Children

E. Nesbit

3.87 AVERAGE

Cute but nothing terribly special. I read this mainly because C.S. Lewis loved Nesbit's work. Nothing magical happened in this book though...just your typical good children doing good and saving the day sort of tale.

i love this book it's so nostalgic

AWWWWWW!!!
I really liked this. It was very lovely.
But I am saying that with all sorts of problematic moments fighting in my mind, wanting me to pay attention to them and to pick it all apart.
But I won't do it. They can't make me. Not until next week when I have to do it in class. Because there is something about this book that I am holding onto. I can't say what it is, it's not anything I usually hold onto. But it's something hopeful and warm and I need it to stay that way for this week. By next week I will be that much closer to going home, and it will be fine, but for now I just love this book.

This was a JOY to listen to. The narrator did an incredible job.

I own two beautiful copies of this children’s classic, and I still ended up listening to the audiobook on BorrowBox instead 😂 but I didn’t realise how short it was so I actually ended up listening to it all in one day while pottering about the house and wrapping Christmas presents!

Although this is technically a children’s book, it’s definitely one for any age! I’m not normally one for historical fiction, even in children’s books, but I did enjoy this one! I loved the family aspect in this one and the bonds the siblings had. I won’t lie, I’m writing this review a good few weeks after reading it and I can’t remember much of the actual plot 🤦🏻‍♀️ but I do remember kinda enjoying it. I won’t say it’s a favourite classic of mine, or that I’ll be going back to it again, but I’m glad I read it! I always collect gorgeous classics like this on my shelves and most of them are sat unread, so it’s nice to tick one of them off! ✔️ 😂

(Not the best review let’s be honest 🙈 sorry 😂)

There is a timeless, innocent magic about this book that I really loved! I can't believe it was written 110 years ago! Feels so much more modern than that. I loved all the random adventures that the children go on. How lucky that they always seem to be in just the right place at the right time to save the day! They are also so selfless, always out to do good for others. Those two things could have been so annoyingly in the hand s of some authors, but somehow E. Nesbit just hit the right notes. As I was reading the book, I felt that each chapter was like a mini story of its own. I found out after that the book was originally released in serial form in a magazine I think. Nice bit of escapism for this jaded adult.
